3 years ago, KDDA Strength to Shine was the first competion I ever organised. It was touch and go as to whether we’d even be able to hold it at Grangetown Hub this weekend, with so many factors making it uncertain. But we are so glad we did👏🏼
The dance world can sometimes be a difficult place, but KDDA has always tried to be a place of kindness, support and community💕
This weekend, that community meant more than ever.
As we all know, Grangetown has suffered an unimaginable loss with the devastating deaths of Natalie Kirton and Valentina Foster. Both had connections to KDDA and Stardust Dance Academy, so we wanted to come together and do something to help. We held a raffle and blind card, raising £260 for both families✨
We were also incredibly honoured that our adjudicator donated a trophy to be dedicated to Natalie and Valentina and awarded every year in their memory🪽
Archie Hopwood was invited back to open the Supremes with his lyrical routine, and it was Archie who won the The Kirton and Foster Memorial Trophy🏆
Our adjudicator wanted to recognise Archie for being such an amazing role model, always supporting and encouraging others, helping wherever he could, and for his incredible routine.
It was such a special trophy to receive, made even more meaningful by what it represents.
This weekend reminded me that KDDA is about so much more than dancing. It’s about people, kindness, community and being there for each other when it matters most. And none of this could happen without the incredible people behind the scenes. You all know who you are, and I will be forever grateful🙏🏼
