Growing construction businesses will always face this one problem when pushing revenue targets
I see this time and time again, the owner gets ambitious, they go and start securing bigger work
Make more sales, and the order book is full... 12 months of projects in the diary and deposits in the bank feels amazing
The delivery of that order book is the mark of success and not the deposits banked and here's the one thing to be mindful of... you need to ensure the "3 C's" before committing to any project
1. Capacity: Can I actually fit this into my schedule timewise using my current team and resources?
2. Capability: Do I have or have access to the skill sets required to deliver this to the standard that my client expects?
3. Cashflow: Can the clients payment terms proposals be carried by my business working capital to see me to the next milestone?
If the answer to any of those are "No" or "Not sure"... make sure that you resolve those 3 things prioir to the start date coming round
That is going to involve sub-contract, consultant, or even staff recruitment
Its going to involve upskilling, training, or acquiring new skilled labour to add to the portfolio of delivery capability in your business
It might even involve loans, investments, partnerships or the like to manage the finances needed
Growth takes time, it takes control and it takes structure - its not an overnight thing... and if this made you think to yourself - "I would love to grow my construction business" or it inspired you in any way - Im taking on a small number of new clients early 2027 to help them achieve exactly that in my Academy Mastermind programme
