Weekend matchday recap 🏏

A tricky day out for the 1st XI. After posting a strong 345/8 from Gems CC, the team gave everything in the field along with some great bowling by A.Watson (3-51) and M.Collins (2-42 . The wicket wasn’t the easiest to bowl on, but we stuck at it and kept pushing right to the end. Big highlight with Kiel Zurawlew bringing up a brilliant 101 batting the full game - a top knock under pressure πŸ‘

2nd XI faced a similar challenge. With Stamfordham CC putting on 205/8. There were some great contributions with the ball as the effort was there throughout, with M. Hunter (3-33) and J. Bennett (2-24) leading the attack and keeping things competitive !!

Plenty of positives to take, we go again next weekπŸ’™πŸ’™

What a fantastic day at our annual Women’s Softball Cricket Festival on Sunday!🏏

The Riding Mill Robins were delighted to host another hugely successful festival, welcoming teams from Stocksfield CC, Benwell and Walbottle, Wylam, Corbridge, Backworth, Seaton Burn, and our brilliant All Stars team. 🌟

There was some fantastic cricket on display throughout the day, plenty of laughs, great teamwork, and most importantly, soooo much fun had by everyone involved! πŸ™Œ

A huge thank you to all the players, supporters, volunteers, and clubs who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We’re incredibly grateful for your support and for helping create such a wonderful atmosphere.

And of course, no cricket festival would be complete without some delicious food to keep everyone going! πŸ°β˜•οΈ

We can’t wait to do it all again next year! πŸ©·πŸ’™πŸ

Following on from our historical 1st XI team on Saturday; two of our junior players hit their first big milestones too πŸŽ‰

On Sunday, Vlad Makarovskyi played only his 3rd senior cricket match, this time for the Sunday XI vs Benwell & Walbottle. In only 5.2 overs Vlad went for 18 runs, but more importantly got his maiden 5fer - an incredible achievement. At one point his field consisted of only a solitary lone fielder on the leg side, with the rest occupying the slips (photo evidence on the last slide).

Moving on to last nights game vs Newcastle, the U15 Raiders took to the field and batting first put on an excellent 140 runs. Showing some real class with the bat and playing a true captains knock, Matty Hunter scored his maiden 50, ending on 51* - it's our first 50 ever for a junior player!

Both of these lads are a product of the Riding Mill Academy and we couldn't be more proud of their achievements! Many, many more wickets and runs to come from these and the rest of the team, with talent coming out of their ears - if you're child would like to get involved, reach out! 🏏

🏏Results round-up🏏

1st XI vs Consett 2nd XI – Match Drawn

Riding Mill 1st XI posted an impressive 297 all out from 47.4 overs, with excellent contributions from M. Collins (81) and R. Willis (75). Consett responded with 218/9 before the match ended in a draw, with K. Smith producing a brilliant spell with 5/35- as you may have seen a very historical first ever 5 wicket haul by a woman in the 1st XI. Woman or not it was a top bowling spell for few runs in tricky match situations.
Despite the frustrations with the time and the rain delay, there were still plenty of positives from a strong all-round performance.

β€”

Friendly XI vs Benwell & Walbottle – RMCC Win by 173 Runs

The Friendly XI enjoyed a lovely Sunday game, piling on 262/9 thanks to superb knocks from J. Bennett (80) and A. Watson (62). In reply, Benwell & Walbottle were bowled out for just 89, as the Riding Mill attack completely took over.

The juniors were absolutely incredible with the ball, showing maturity well beyond their years. J. Bennett jnr delivered a stunningly economical spell, conceding at just 0.4 an over, while Vladlen starred with a sensational five-wicket haul for only 18 runs to help wrap up a huge 173-run victory. A fantastic team effort and a brilliant advert for the young talent coming through the club.

β€”

Ravens vs Backworth Women’s – Backworth Win by 136 Runs

The Ravens battled hard in difficult, very windy conditions against an impressive Backworth side. Backworth put on a huge 199/3 from their 20 overs, B.Noon saw most success with the ball taking the only 2 wickets for 22 runs. Riding Mill were bowled out for 63, with L. Ashburn top scoring with 26.

The Ravens came up against some outstanding young talent, including a player who celebrated her first ever century – a fantastic achievement and one that deserved real credit. Despite the result, the Ravens kept spirits high throughout and continued to show great teamwork and determination in challenging conditions.

Well done all involved at the weekend and bring on this weeks cricket πŸ’ͺπŸ™Œ

Eight years of unwavering support, countless hours behind the scenes, and thousands raised for the club during his time as Fundraising Officer β€” Baz has been a huge part of the heartbeat of Riding Mill Cricket Club.

Although he’s stepped down from the fundraising role, he remains a massive presence around the club, and despite recently losing a toe, you’ll still find him turning out regularly on a Saturday or Sunday for the Mill.

A true club man through and through πŸ’™

Thank you to Brian β€œBaz” Watson for sponsoring today’s match ball! 🏏

For the first time in club history, we had 3 women playing in our 1st XI against Consett 2’s!

Becca and Liv built a nice lower order partnership with Becca putting on 23, Liv back from hols keeping wicket and Katie took the first ever 5-fer by a woman in the 1st XI with 5-35 off 12 overs!

You love to see it πŸ™Œ Well done lasses!
