WEEK 67 - A kickfest of a session!

Tang Soo Do is a striking art, so our kicks need to be as good as our hand techniques 🦵👊

🥋 Lots of focused stretching and warming up
🥋 Inside to outside chop kicks
🥋 Outside to inside chop kicks
🥋 Side lifting (or stretching) kicks
🥋 The dramatic and very effective side snap kick
🥋 Nicole practised both of her jumping chop kicks
🥋 Finisher - Coach Mark demonstrated ‘crescent kicks’ and their application against weapons to disarm an armed opponent

WEEK 67 - Senior member training!

This week, Nicole trained for her 1st Dan grading! It was very fulfilling helping Nicole go through 2 of her 3 grading forms in great detail. We covered a lot:

🥋 Naihanji Cho Dan
🥋 Ba Sa Hee (or Bassai) is a stand alone form symbolising the Cobra - with 52 moves, many changes of direction and different techniques based on Chinese Boxing 🐍

FACT: The Ba Sa Hee form is said to have been practised by Buddhist Monks and is nearly half a century old!

Although we are a busy class with our UKTSD Federation syllabus, we always welcome new students, total martial arts beginners/those returning to training/anyone interested in ‘The Way of The China Hand’ (Tang Soo Do), a traditional Korean martial art!

WEEK 65 - Back at it!!

🥋 Hyab joins Neil as a fellow yellow belt, helping each other through their new forms and techniques - lovely bit of camaraderie 👏

WEEK 64 - Big wins for Sammy and Hyab!!! 🥋🎖️

20 years after her last grading and Sammy returns and upgrades! And to top it off, Hyab bags his first grading!! A huge well done to you both!

🥋 In March, Sammy and Hyab were successful at their grading and were presented with their certificates and new belts. Sammy a blue tag on her green belt - which was last granted in 2005 (now a 3rd Gup) and Hyab a beginner with us - now a yellow belt and 8th Gup
🥋 Next grading for Sammy is blue belt and orange for Hyab
🥋 Sammy and Hyab were eager to start training on their new hyungs (forms) and techniques which include jumping side and roundhouse kicks

WEEK 63 - Students’ Request Week!

After the grading last weekend, this week we had a students’ request class, where they chose what we covered!

Sammy and Neil were only interested in their next forms and techniques 👏

🥋 Sammy - Pyung Ahn Sah Dan (no 5 and last in this series) plus double fist block & reverse side punch
🥋 Neil & Hyab - Pyung Ahn Cho Dan (no 1 in the series) plus side lifting and side snap kicks
🥋 Sammy also lead the warm up for the first time as Senior Member - well done!

No class next week (9th April) due to holidays, but we are back and raring to go on Thursday 16th April! 👊🏼

WEEK 62 - Grading week has arrived!

We had our last class before grading - see Hyab and Sammy showing off their amazing skills! 👊🏼

On Saturday, Hyab and Sammy represented TSD Tyneside at the grading in Pudsey Leisure Centre near Leeds, which was attended by students and instructors from Yorkshire, the North East & North West of the UK.

HYAB
🥋 Hyab, as a beginner, impressed in a double grading from 10th to 8th Gup (white to yellow belt), including breaking the board with his front snap kick and 3 step sparring with a black belt!

SAMMY
🥋Sammy excelled in her 2 forms (hyungs), especially her 1 step and free fighting, plus her back kick board breaking.
🥋 Sammy is a returnee to the UKTSD Federation after a 15 year break - this is her first grading after the break to green belt/blue tag!

A big shout out to our host Yorkshire clubs for their welcome and encouragement; the Judges Masters Tang, Williams & Singh and the support of our club members to our grading students 🙏🏼 Next upgrading is in July!!

Region 2 (Yorkshire and North East England) of the UK TSD Federation have excellent, dedicated and approachable certified/insured Martial Arts Instructors. We are all trained in First Aid and Safeguarding 🙌

Last weekend, all UK TSDF Instructors attended our annual Coaching and Referees course in Watford to exchange experience, tips and be updated in the traditional art of Tang Soo Do. Over 80 Masters (4th Dan and above) plus senior 2nd and 3rd Dan grades benefitted from a fulfilling day with Mark having to ‘instruct’ a 20 strong class of ‘students’ who were mainly Masters 😳 daunting but enjoyable!

TSD Tyneside (our Federation’s newest class) even got an honourable mention from our Secretary General, Master Andrew Lee, at our closing ceremony on the day! ✊
