Young people across Wales are taking their first steps into cycling leadership through the Activator Award, with recent sessions at Hafod Trails and Coleg y Cymoedd Rhondda Campus giving participants the opportunity to learn, develop their own ideas and explore what it means to support others on two wheels. 🤝

Designed to build the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to create safe, inclusive and enjoyable cycling activities, the award is helping develop the next generation of cycling leaders ahead of the Tour de France Grand Départ 2027. 🚴

With one course already delivered and three more taking place at Ystrad Mynach, Aberdare and Nantgarw, a total of 32 young people will complete their Activator training by the end of October. 📍

The young Activators will go on to take leadership roles within their colleges and communities, helping to deliver Cycling Festivas and other cycling activities for their peers and the wider community. 🚲

With further opportunities already being developed with colleges across Wales, the Activator Award is giving young people a meaningful role in the cycling legacy ahead of the Tour de France and helping more people discover the opportunities cycling can offer. 🌱

Our latest Women's Cycling Community session welcomed Sport Wales nutritionist Olivia Barnes for an open conversation around nutrition and fuelling for female cyclists. 🥗

From staying fuelled on the bike and supporting recovery to understanding how nutritional needs can vary, Olivia shared practical advice around fuelling for different types of riding, individual needs and different stages of life.

The session also explored some of the specific considerations for women, including hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle and menopause, the impact of fasting and the challenges of nutrition misinformation online.

There was plenty of time for questions and discussion too, giving attendees the chance to share experiences and explore some of the challenges around nutrition in cycling.

A big thank you to Olivia and everyone who joined us for the session. 💫

From now on, these sessions will become part of our Coaches Corner series, providing more opportunities to explore women-specific topics and educational content as part of the wider programme. 📣

Have your say. 🗣️

We want to hear from everyone involved in cycling in Wales - whether you’re a rider, coach, volunteer, commissaire, parent, club or event organiser, or one of our partners.

Our short, anonymous survey takes around 5 minutes to complete and gives you the opportunity to tell us what’s working, what isn’t, and what you’d like to see change.

Your feedback will help us understand how well we communicate, listen and support the cycling community, as well as where we can do better. It will also help shape how we work and the support we provide to clubs and the wider cycling community.

You don’t need to be a member to take part - every experience and perspective matters.

🗓️ | Survey closes Friday, 23 October 2026

Four Welsh riders have been selected to represent the Great Britain Cycling Team at the 2026 TISSOT UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai, China, from 14–18 October. 🇨🇳

Emma Finucane, Lowri Thomas, Megan Barker and Anna Morris will line up among the world’s best, with 22 UCI World Championship titles set to be contested across five days.

The four riders head to Shanghai off the back of a successful 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where they played key roles in Wales’ track cycling success. Finucane claimed four golds, including team sprint gold alongside Lowri Thomas. Morris won two individual golds and team pursuit bronze, with Barker also part of Wales’ bronze-medal ride.

They’ll now look to carry that momentum onto the World Championship stage, with Shanghai marking the first track cycling qualification event on the road to LA 2028.

Llongyfarchiadau i Emma, Lowri, Megan ac Anna! 👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported Ffion and Meg on their incredible Ride Cymru challenge in support of the Beicio Cymru Foundation. 💫

Over three days, they tackled more than 400km and 6,000m+ of elevation, riding from Llandudno to Cardiff through the heart of Wales. From the Great Orme and Eryri to the Cambrian Mountains, Brecon Beacons, Gospel Pass and Black Mountains, it was a challenging but unforgettable journey – made even tougher by some unpredictable Welsh weather! 🏔️

The Foundation works to create more opportunities for people across Wales to enjoy cycling, particularly those from under-represented groups and disadvantaged communities. Your donations will help support projects like Pedal and Picnic, which gives teenage girls in areas of deprivation the opportunity to access safe, local cycling. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the challenge and helped raise £1,060 to support cycling opportunities in communities across Wales. 🙌
