Last night. What did we do?
Well, after our regular warm and practice of Tai Sabaki, we also revisited Shikko (Knee walking) as we haven’t done it for several weeks.
We then cracked out the focus mitts and practiced a basic cross and jab combination, both with open palm and closed fist style strikes.
After this, we practiced techniques from a double collar grab (Ryo mune dori), again.
These techniques were Ikkyo, Nikkyo, Sankyo, Shihonage and Irimi nage.
On what was another hot and humid summer evening, everyone did very well and showed a lot of spirit again, especially when it came to palm striking their fellow students in the face 🤣
We’ll be back again same time, same place, next Wednesday.

Sensei Jon of Darkoak Aikido practicing with Sensei Cathy Knight, at a recent course attended under the guidance of Sensei Pierre Citti in Lambourn, UK.
Sensei Cathy is an excellent Aikidoka and martial artist, and you can always learn something from spending time either practicing with her, or taking one of her classes.
Sensei Cathy has taught at Darkoak Aikido and we hope to have her back at the club again in the near future.

Good practice last night here at Darkoak Aikido.
After a light warm up, we started the evening by looking at moves 1-5 of the 20 Jo Suburi. This was followed by us practicing the 13 step Jo Kata.
In the second half of the evening we looked at practicing Entry, posture breaking and continual posture breaking, continual movement and full use of energy created by whole body movement.
The techniques we used to help us practice these principles were; Irimi nage, Nikkyo, Sankyo, and a reverse Kote gaeshi from a Yokomen attack.
It was a very good practice overall and we had good fun. As always it is great to see students pick things up and make positive progression.
We’ll be back next week, same place, same time.
