MDL CUP RESULTS...

The MDL Cup Finals were held at our Club on Sunday 13th September.

M.D.L. CUP SEMI-FINAL – Kings managed to overcome Babbacombe by just one shot in this highly competitive game.

M.D.L. CUP SEMI-FINAL – Saw our very own ‘C’ team taking on our ‘D’ team. In what was a tense affair over the first half of the game it suddenly opened up with the ‘D’ taking control and coming out as winners to go forward to the final.

Pairs Final – Gary Routledge & Alan Routledge were up against K Taylor & J Sharland (Abbrook Park). The early exchanges saw the Abbrook Park boys pull out a bit of a lead before our chaps mounted a fightback. It was nip and tuck all the way to the conclusion of eighteen ends of bowling, at which point the scores were even at 16 shots apiece. An extra end followed which was full of drama and tension. The Abbrook skip bowled a couple of cracking drawing bowls to sit match lie. Alan, with one wood to go had no option to play a controlled running wood, away it went, a tad wide and alas it didn’t get back in time so the title went to Abbrook Park 17 – 16.

Officers Cup – The M.D.L. Committee took on one of our own rinks in a must win game. There was some good bowling (and some not so good!!) in a friendly but competitive game. TCBC got off to a great start and never really looked in trouble as they closed out a win 24 – 13.

The Singles Final saw B Smith (Paignton) up against Gary Routledge (T.C.B.C.). Gary made up for the Pairs disappointment earlier in the day by putting in a sterling performance to take the Singles title 21 – 6.

The M.D.L. CUP FINAL saw our very own ‘D’ team (picture below) up against a strong rink from Kings. Our lads got off to the better start and were 4 – 0 up after three ends. After that, the class of the Kings four showed through. After a great giant killing run in this competition our success was brought to an end as we lost out 10 – 29. It was still a great effort by our Men.

In the Triples Final D Farley, T Lock, J Cussen (Paignton) took on B Bushell, P Drake, S Goodyear (King’s). In another entertaining final the plaudits on this occasion went to the Paignton team.

MEN'S MDL...

The Men’s final league table minus one result (Which will have no effect on the promotions and relegations). Our ‘A’ team had a slow start to the season but eventually got going to secure a place in the top half of the Premier Division. The ‘B’ team did well to finish mid table in Division 1 whilst the ‘C’ and ‘D’ teams battled hard to also gain mid table positions in Division 3 (The ‘D’ team just edged ahead of the ‘C’ team this season). Well done all on maintaining positions ready for next season.

Just to let you know that the County Competition sheets are now on the noticeboard in the clubhouse (and not in a file/folder as last year).

These entry sheets for badged and unbadged players need to be completed by 31st December for input on to the new Devon Bowls system.

Please make a note of your entries as a payment system will be advised in due course.

MEN'S COUNTY COMPETITION RESULT...

Grater Pairs – Alan & Gary Routledge travelled to Ottery St Mary BC to play the semi final this today with hope of making the final later this afternoon. The were up against a tough pairing from Culm Vale for the semi final. Sadly, it was not their day and as Alan put it “neither of us turned up for this one, anything we tried went against us”. The scoreboard showed them at 8 – 25 down after sixteen ends so it was game over. It was still a great effort from Alan and Gary to get this far, they will be disappointed but they can hold their heads high after another excellent campaign.

COUNTY COMPETITION MATCHES...

GRATER PAIRS - On Saturday 5th September Alan & Gary Routledge will be playing the semi final of this competition at Ottery St Mary BC. The match will start at 10am against a pair from Culm Vale. Winning this match would mean they then play in the Final (same day starting at 1.30pm.

MEN'S OVER 55 LEAGUE RESULT...

Our Men’s Over 55 ‘W’ team played their final match of the season and produced an 8 - 0 home win against Totnes. Terry Boon, Brian Thomas and Tony Reeves won 17 - 13 and Steve Brilli, John Rowntree and Graham Brough won 24 - 9.
The squad has done well to finish 2nd in the league and competed well all season.
Well done to the above players and also Andy Hall, Bill Deary, Andy Woodward Phil Blyth, Pete Leins and Graham Parker.
