Last week we held the first of our two consultation meetings in the Long Room at the club. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their views.

The second meeting will take place on Monday 23rd February at 19:00, again in the Long Room. This is your opportunity to have your say on what the Steering Group will put forward to the council.

If you’re unable to attend in person, the online form remains open and has already received over 70 responses. Many common themes are emerging, some of which are highlighted in the image below.

We look forward to seeing you next week or receiving your online submission.

Penarth Athletic Club Fire Update 26th January 2026

Following a very positive site visit with Vale of Glamorgan Council officials last week to clarify some structural issues and finalise the plan, we are happy to confirm that demolition and site clearance will begin imminently. The Council have appointed an internal Project Manager to oversee these works on behalf of their insurers.

This has now allowed us to turn our attention to the next phase and we are please to confirm that a Rebuild Steering Group has been created made up of suitable representatives from all our sections.

The terms of reference for this group are clear : To deliver a suitable facility for the benefit of members and the wider community now and for the generations to follow.

This exciting group will be overseen by our Co-Chair Persons David Carter and Gareth Hubback.

As we move forward further updates and public consultations will follow and we welcome any suggestions from our community.

If you have any queries or suggestions please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

📣 Penarth Athletic Club Update 📣

The Club wishes to provide an update regarding the recent incident affecting our facilities and the steps currently underway.

We are currently working through the standard insurance assessment process, which includes the preparation of a detailed forensic report. This report will be reviewed by insurers, and until that stage is completed, the Club will remain closed to members and the general public.

We are working closely with local council representatives, loss adjusters, and insurers to progress all required approvals. To prevent any delays, we are also securing the necessary sign-off for the electrical works that were undertaken to maintain power to the Long Room.

One of the key challenges we are managing is the ongoing smoke odour and contamination within the affected areas. The issue persists when the building is closed for any period of time, and it will be addressed as part of the overall process.

This remains a fluid situation and may change quickly. We will continue to keep members, partners, and the community informed as developments occur.

For further information or enquiries, please feel free to contact Club Secretary Dan Mears.

Big thank you to everyone who has donated so far we will be in touch but if you still wish to do so link is below:

Penarth Athletic Club Rebuild – One Week On

9th December 2025

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a week since the devastating fire and the launch of our Crowdfunder. In that short time, something truly extraordinary has happened.

The response has exceeded every expectation—we’ve been completely humbled. The messages, the memories, and the sheer generosity have been incredibly emotional to read. It’s a powerful reminder of just how deeply this Club lives in the hearts of so many.

Support has poured in from every corner of the UK and even from across the world. Rugby clubs, cricket clubs, hockey clubs, past and present players, families, local businesses, and supporters near and far have stood with us. We’ve even received backing from the WRU and Cricket Wales—an amazing show of solidarity across the sporting community.

This week has proven that Penarth Athletic Club is far more than a place to play sport. It’s woven into people’s lives, their childhoods, friendships, and stories. Seeing so many come together has been nothing short of inspiring.

There’s still a long road ahead, but with this level of support behind us, we know we’ll rebuild—together.

Thank you, truly, for every message, every memory, and every donation.

Let’s keep pushing forward together.

📣 Penarth Athletic Club Update 📣

Following yesterday’s devastating events at Penarth Athletic Club, senior members from all sections have been back on site today to begin planning the next steps. The main room, which suffered the most significant damage, will be made safe and cleaned by the weekend. The Long Room, which fortunately only experienced smoke damage, is currently undergoing a deep clean.

Due to the extent of the damage and the specialist work required, professional contractors are needed. However, we are incredibly grateful for the many offers of help from the community.

We are hopeful that by the weekend, the community will be able to gather safely in the Long Room ahead of the Rugby First Team’s cup game. Transport to the game venue will be provided by the WRU. The club also aims to open on a limited basis on Sunday morning to support the junior sections’ training.

We are very thankful for the support from the WRU and Cricket Wales, who are supplying transport and portable toilets to help make this possible.

We truly appreciate all the offers of support for the club, our staff, and our members. We will be reaching out as soon as we have a clearer route forward.

Kind regards,
Penarth Athletic Club
