2026/27 Mining Winter League Snooker Report – Week 1
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to the new 2026/2027 Mining Winter League Snooker season!
Firstly, a massive thank you to Anthony Williams for running the Mining Summer League. I am not quite ready (retired) to run both seasons year-round just yet, so thanks to him or there probably wouldn’t have been a summer league. Also, a big congratulations to Playing Place on winning the Summer League.
Division2 has lost a Four Lanes team (down to 1 team in each league) this season, but we welcome Penryn A who have dropped themselves from Division 1. They will be starting the season on a -15 frame handicap. This means Division 2 will still comprise 10 teams over a 27-week season with a two-week break at Christmas. The first two weeks of the season will be Division 2 matches only. Division 1 will comprise of 8 teams (following the loss of Penryn A and Redruth Highway) over a 21-week season with a three-week break at Christmas. They will start on the 30th of September. Good luck to everyone—here’s to an stress-free season filled with nothing but great snooker!
Penryn A vs. Radnor Golf (4-1) The first match on the fixture list saw Penryn A host Radnor Golf. Penryn dominated with a 4-1 victory, dropping their only frame on the black when Simon Wills defeated Adam Hoskins. Penryn recorded four 20+ breaks, including the highest break of the week—a 34 by Dave Southworth. Ben Thomas contributed a 24 and a 20 break on his way to winning his frame. Radnor made use of the four-player rule, the only team to do so this week.
Playing Place B vs. Camborne Conservatives (1-4) In the second match of the week, Camborne Conservatives visited Playing Place B and secured a convincing 4-1 win over the home team. Ben Trewern won the solitary frame for Playing Place B on the black, while Tom Maude knocked in a respectable 29 break for Camborne.
Illogan Highways B vs. Illogan Highways C (1-4) The first of many derbies this season was the Illogan Derby, where the B team took on the C team. In what might be considered an upset (though I'm still getting to know the Illogan players it might not be!), the C team emerged victorious with a strong 4-1 win.
Four Lanes B vs. Playing Place C (4-1) In yet another 4-1 result, Four Lanes B hosted Playing Place C, with the home team taking the glory. Andy Phillips added a great 29 break on his way to winning his frame.
Godolphin Club vs. Penryn B (3-2) The final match of the week saw Penryn B visit the Godolphin Club. In a tightly contested match, Simon Pickin took the final frame for the home team, clinching a 3-2 victory in a final-frame decider.
