Midweek request for volunteers and important information regarding parking for this Saturdays upcoming parkrun.
The centre car park located next to the play ground will be closed! We will be opening the field to use as a temporary solution and politely request that all parkrunners use this car park to allow the other car parks to be used for the general public and gym users. Please note that the temporary car park will be closed at 10:30.
We are still needing volunteers to make sure the event goes ahead so please consider helping out if you’re not able to run.
We desperately need the following volunteers:
Tokens x2
And we will take the following extra:
Park walker
Run and scan
Also if there’s any milestones, birthdays, tourists or special occasions then please let me know for a shoutout!
See you all Saturday,
Neal

🧡 The Ken Bingley Memorial 10k this Sunday 16th August 10am.
There are still places available via this link. https://racebest.com/races/3x797
🌳 For those that don't know why we promote this local 10k. Ken Bingley was a fantastic runner, a super supporter and a stalwart volunteer for us at Pontefract (plus Frickley and Nostell too) Ken's Corner on our course is named after him, and you, our fabulous community raised money for a bench and gym equipment in his name, when he sadly passed away.
This run is a great way to remember him and it would be amazing to see our parkrun community there. Several members of the Pontefract parkrun core team will be taking part, after having had an intense training programme led by RD 'Coach' Greg over the last few weeks, appropriately named the Couch to Ken 10. Some of the team have done more training than others, so lets see how we all get on!! 🤔🤣
💙 The event is being organised by local running club Ackworth road runners and is to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the MS trust.
Let us know in the comments if you'll be joining us

Parkrun eve is upon us and I am still short of a few key volunteer roles.
Back up time keeper
Token giver out
Token support
Barcode scanner - if you are quick you can run and scan.
If anyone wants a shout-out for a milestone or celebrations let me know.
I will (hopefully) be shouting go at 9am tomorrow
Marian

Happy hump day
Who wants to wear the height of fashion on a Saturday morning.
The rota is looking okay for some roles but at the moment I've got no one to hand out the tokens and I could do with a back up time keeper and another barcode scanner to keep the finish funnel functioning as it should.
Thanks to everyone who has already stepped forward and let me know if you'd like to help this week ( or in future weeks) via email or on this post.
Let me know if there are any milestones or celebrations and I'll make sure I'll give you a shout out just before 9am
Thanks
Marian

Thank you to the 23 amazing volunteers who made today's event so straightforward for me as run director. You are fantastic.
Also massive thanks to the lady (I am really sorry that I didn't get your name) who helped Matthew out when he had a bit of trouble at the finish. After the ice lolly you got him he recovered pretty quickly and was in good shape when Mum arrived.
We had visitors from all over this morning, including the Frick family from Bundaberg, Queensland who sorted the finish tokens for us. Thank you.
Well done Ruth Carter for running her 100th at Pontefract. Sorry I missed giving you a shout out.
Marian is in charge next week and desperately needs volunteers to make it happen. Please comment or reply to us if you can help out.
See you soon. Ian.

Morning all.
It’s 24 hours until I head down to the park and get everything set up for our parkrun. Will you be there to start your Yorkshire Day celebrations?
I just need a couple of marshals then all is good to go.
See you in the morning.
Ian

It’s Yorkshire Day on Saturday so why not start it with a gentle 5k (3.1 mile) walk or run around Pontefract Park?
Your friendly parkrun team will be there from 8:30 to help guide you and offer their support.
We shout GO at 9am and then all go for a well earned breakfast somewhere that is bound to set you up for the rest of the day.
We just need a couple more volunteers to ensure it goes ahead as planned. Please reply or message if you want to help out.
Looking forward to seeing you by the lake.

There’s a car locked in the car park still. I’ll be walking past at about 11:30 and can let you out. Otherwise I’ll be at home with the key, about half an hour away.
