After a slight hiccup we managed to go ahead and 364 people ran, jogged and walked at Pontefract parkrun this morning. We welcomed 87 first timers at Pontefract with 15 of them completing their first ever parkrun. Congratulations to the 51 people who recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 40 different clubs took part and visitors came from as far away as Edinburgh, London, Torquay and the Netherlands amongst other places.

A couple of people broke rule number 4 today - we hope you're not feeling too bruised and shaken up and that you're back for another go soon.

Merv is in charge next week and needs a few more volunteers to complete the roster.

We will be cancelled on 4th July due to the Armed Forces Day event in the park.

Greg will be organising a pacing event on the 11th July; a perfect opportunity to have a go at pacing a time or to go for a new PB!

Since then 24,660 participants have completed 180,239 parkruns covering a total distance of 901,195 km, including 26,795 new Personal Bests. A total of 1,606 individuals have volunteered 12,755 times.

📢📢📢IMPORTANT MESSAGE📢📢📢

UPDATE: We are on!! Please park sensibly!

We have been made aware that the car park within the racecourse has been closed. This impacts on parking availability in the park and also on our course as trapped cars will need to use the track to leave. CRUCIALLY we are unable to go ahead with traffic using the course. We will need to see if the cars currently trapped have left before our start time before we know if we can go ahead. This may mean we need to cancel - we will update on here as we have more information.

If you do want to come and see if we are on then please, please park responsibly, avoiding the leisure centre car parks. Parking is available at the retail parks opposite (please check timings), in the town centre council car parks (2 hrs free) and at Huggamug.

Pontefract parkrun run report event 710

I dislike photos of myself, but this is the only photo this morning, so it will have to do.

On this momentous weekend, where the 1,000,000th parkrun event will happen we had 417 people who ran, jogged and walked around the Pontefract course. There were 88 Ponte first timers, and 17 choosing Pontefract to do their very first ever parkrun, I hope you enjoyed it, and we see you again soon.

There were 70 recorded new Personal Bests, including one from the first finisher who ran the course in an impressive 15:53, which is an awesome effort and well over twice as fast I as can run it - proving parkrun is for all abilities (could say though I get better value for money😉). Representatives of 53 different clubs took part.

We had an amazing array of tourists from Wales, Cornwall, Germany and Australia (as well as more local tourists) we hope you enjoyed the friendliest parkrun in Yorkshire.

Don’t forget, we are cancelled on 4 July and on 11 July Greg is hoping for a pacing event.

That said, we still have 2 more events before all of that and Hannah will be in charge next week, with a sparse looking roster at the moment. Let us know via email, messenger, fb, carrier pigeon if you would like to join her. No job is hard and we’ll show you the ropes beforehand.

Event #708 ~ 30th May 2026

Wow what a morning! It was a record setting morning at pontefract parkrun today. We had the pleasure of seeing Darcy Holt set the assisted wheelchair record with her mum Jessica! It was so good to see you!

We also saw 375 people who participated today, 85 were first timers and 32 recorded new Personal Bests. Well done all.
