Pontefract parkrun number 724 was an absolutely beautiful morning in the park, 358 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 55 were first timers and 61 recorded new Personal Bests.

Pontefract parkrun started on 7th May 2011. Since then 25,532 participants have completed 184,840 parkruns covering a total distance of 924,200 km, including 27,401 new Personal Bests. A total of 1,652 individuals have volunteered 13,075 times.

Run Report for Pontefract parkrun number 723 – The one where I kept up my average.

I mentioned in my Run Directors brief that whenever I’m in charge it seems to rain and today was no exception although it wasn’t until near the end of the event that it started. Even then, it wasn’t much to write home about, but it did rain, and coupled with the spell of sunshine that accompanied it we did end up with a spectacular rainbow.

There were no incidents to report today, everyone behaved impeccably, so thank you one and all for making my job so much easier.

What also helped was having a full house of willing and able volunteers, many of whom formed part of the visit we received from the local Yorkshire West Riding Freemasons. Therefore, it’s a big thank you from me to the following for stepping up to help out and doing a brilliant job:

Statistically, this week 310 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 52 were first timers to Pontefract, 10 of those being brand new to parkrun. Welcome and we hope to see you again. A total of 34 runners recorded new Personal Bests, which considering the ideal running conditions was good, and we welcomed visitors from Cambridge, London and Poland. We’re sure there were more but Frank got carried away with his first timers brief and forgot to ask. Either way, welcome one and all and we hope you enjoyed your visit.

We ended up with a few milestones, none of which seemed to want a shout out pre-run, but many congratulations to the following:

10 runs – Jon Holtom
10 runs – Emma Sharp
10 runs – Jade Chapman-Elliott

I’m writing a parkrun post and I’m this week’s RD, therefore it must be Wednesday. As is often the norm, we are not quite there yet in terms of volunteers although we’re not doing too badly.

If you are recovering from an injury/operation and unable to run, if you are simply resting because you are running the Castleford 10K on Sunday or you just fancy experiencing that warm and fuzzy feeling you get from helping out your fellow runners, why not join me as part of the “A-Team” this weekend.

The roles I still need to fill (and must to be compliant with parkrun rules) are:

Timekeeper X 2
Finish Token Support X 1

A couple of extra Marshals would not go amiss and in fact any extras are always welcome and help to ease the strain.
Please get in touch by the usual channels if you are in a position to assist – Thank you.

If anyone is celebrating a milestone or visiting from afar then please let us know and we’ll give you a shout out.

I look forward to seeing you all in the park on Saturday morning when I will be blowing “The Whistle” at 09-00hrs.

Pontefract parkrun - Event number 722

• 358 people ran, jogged and walked the course
• 19 juniors
• 68 first timers
• 37 recorded new Personal Bests

3 official milestones were also achieved;

•Seth F-W crossed the line for the 10th time

•Dan G achieved 💯 finishes

•Tim P completed his 500th parkrun towing a balloon whilst surrounded by his family, including his grandson Sidney who completed his first parkrun today 😍🎈

•one unofficial milestone was Pontefract regular Nick Bell who completed his 450th.

Lastly a birthday shout out for Imogen H, joining us on her 14th birthday. 🎂

Event number 721

Today we had 376 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 71 were first time visitors to Pontefract - 16 brand new members of the parkrun family - welcome and I hope you enjoyed your trip to Pontefract.

54 people recorded new Personal Bests.

The event was made possible by 24 volunteers, several of whom stepped up towards the end of the week, a huge thank you to the following superstars;

Hi Folks

Happy parkrun eve.

The roster is looking okay for tomorrow but I hope you are okay queueing for your finish token and scanning.

I need a 2nd person to hand out the tokens once you've finished, and at the moment I only have one scanner, if you want to help out please let me know via this post. If you are a quick runner you can run and then scan afterwards even if it is only for the main rush around 25 - 30 mins.

Please also let me know if there are any milestones or celebrations you want me to mention in the run brief.

I'll be shouting go at 9am.

Happy Wednesday .......

Just looking at the roster for this weekend and its not looking too bad but at the moment but I've got no-one to hand out tokens and no-one to scan them.

If you are running a race over the weekend (including the Leeds Country Way Relay) and want to rest your legs please consider volunteering this weekend. If you are a quick runner and want to get double points you can scan after your run to help out as well.

Pontefract parkrun Event 720

This week’s Run Report has been written by tourist, Andrew Meadows …

In honour of Dolly, we were all raring to going for our 9am to 5km this morning, no need to earn a living, thanks to all the fantastic volunteers putting this event on for free.

Not sure what I can say about the course that hasn't already been said, however as first timer here, I would encourage everyone to attend at some point, scenic lap of the lake, and then a long singular lap of the race course and a nice incline to come back to the lake. I also liked how the finish line just appears from around the corner. The most similar course to this that we have in Wales is Haverfordwest West. However, that is mostly on the actually horse part of the track, neigh bother.

I would like to thank all the volunteers for putting this event on for all of us today, and a special thank you to Frank for his wonderful and humorous guide to Pontefract.

Also Muriel, for ensuring that we could all hear the briefing at the back and for dealing with a very brief moment of rudeness with integrity. I would like to mention that we should always treat our fellow runners, volunteers, other park users, and all the barkrunners with respect.

Lastly, to the gentleman debating with his young child about who was faster out of the two, I can confirm that as they were in a pram and finished first they are 1000% faster, (not a race 😉 )

OK, for us statistic enthusiasts.

69 first timers to Pontefract
57 event or personal PBs 😱

Now on a long train ride home to Merthyr Tydfil, which will feel like no time at all, thanks to the feel good factor at Pontefract parkrun.
