⚠️ Would Your Girth Straps Pass This Test? ⚠️

These two tell their own story. One newly replaced, one cracked and worn through. Your girth straps are genuinely all that hold you and your saddle onto your horse, so it's worth knowing what to look for!

✅ What to check:

No cracking beyond the surface of the leather
Holes that are even, not stretched or elongated
Even thickness throughout, not thinned in places
Stitching that's still sound and secure

🚫 If you're in any doubt, it's time to replace them. As a rule, all four straps are best replaced together rather than just the damaged one.

🔧 Our fitters can come out to you or you can bring your saddle to us, and we'll replace your girth straps on site or off, so you're safely back in the saddle without the guesswork.

📏 How to Measure Your Horse's Gullet Width at Home 📏

Want to get a head start on understanding your horse's shape before a fitting? Here's how to use a gullet gauge or flexi stick at home!

1️⃣ Stand your horse square. Make sure they're on level, firm ground with their head in a normal, relaxed position. An uneven stance will throw off your measurement!

2️⃣ Find the right spot. You're looking for a point roughly 5cm (about 2 inches) behind the back edge of the shoulder blade. This is where the gullet plate of the saddle actually sits, so it's the spot that matters most.

3️⃣ Shape your flexi stick to the back. Gently bend it over the horse's back at that point so it follows the curve of their body without pressing in.

4️⃣ Trace and mark it. Lift it off carefully and trace the shape onto paper, marking it with chalk or tape so you don't lose the outline.

5️⃣ Use the Gullet Guage to get an idea of what gullet bar width for reference!

⚠️ Worth knowing: a gullet gauge shows you angle and shape, not an exact width in millimetres, and it can sink into any hollows if your horse has lost muscle recently. A paper template is often more reliable in those cases.

👉 The takeaway: this is a great starting point for understanding your horse's shape, but it's not a replacement for a proper fitting.
