Wednesday 21st October Match Results

We had what I like to call wet rain. The sort that does a brilliant job of making everyone cold, but somehow a terrible job of actually topping up the lakes!

Water temperatures are now sitting around 11°C, and the weights have definitely started moving towards those autumn/winter catches. On the plus side, we've been seeing some lovely perch around the 2lb mark, so there are still some cracking fish coming out.

Despite the conditions, we had 14 anglers turn up, including Steve W, who was back with us and gave Alan a good run for his money on the Match Lake. Although Steve can probably blame me for distracting him for about 30 minutes during the match.

Wednesday 14th October Match Results

A few of the regulars were off enjoying their holidays this week, so we had 8 anglers on the bank.

It was definitely a tougher day in the office. Temperatures have dropped quite a bit overnight, and the water is noticeably colder, which seems to have slowed the fish down.

Still, around 160lb was caught between the 8 anglers. With the biggest bag coming in at just over 44lb, it shows just how much some had to work for their fish today!

Sunday Update – Many Hands Make Light Work!

Well, that went better than expected!

We had 18 people come along throughout the morning for our working party today and honestly, we got through more work in a few hours than I probably could have managed in a year on my own.

We split up across all three lakes and attacked the brambles, dead wood, snags and overgrowth. The difference is massive. We’ve opened up access in loads of areas, cleared around the swims and even created a bit more room in places where getting a bivvy in was previously a challenge.

The only downside is my already ridiculous pile of wood in the Car Park has now doubled in size. So if anyone has any bright ideas for dealing with that lot, I’m all ears!

A massive thank you to everyone who gave up their Sunday morning to come and help.

Also a big thank you to Robin and Lynne for keeping everyone going with tea and coffee. It was great seeing everyone working together and, just as importantly, stopping for a drink and chatting about fishing and their favourite swims.

We’re almost at the end of our first year at HAC, and today felt like a pretty good way to round it off. I’m really proud of what we’ve managed to achieve in that first year, and today showed just how much can get done when everyone mucks in.
I’ll share a few photos from today so you can see the difference.

HAC - Wednesday 7th October Match Results

Only 8 anglers on the bank this week, but they certainly had a bit of everything thrown at them by the weather. It was wet, windy and at times downright miserable, but fair play to everyone who stuck it out.

After the dry summer we've had, the lakes could do with a solid few months of rain. I'm not sure the anglers would agree, but we'll take what we can get!

Despite the conditions, the fishing was pretty good, with the match anglers putting together a combined weight of just over 170lb between them. Not record-breaking numbers, but a respectable result given the numbers and cooler temps.

Sunday Update – Hockley Angling Club

This week I thought I'd share a few of the catches that have been sent in over the last couple of weeks.

One that really caught my eye was a proper net of roach from the Mixed Lake. There were so many good fish in there that when it came to choosing a photo, I just picked the first one that came to hand.

The fishing overall has been pretty steady. Some anglers have had red-letter days, others have had to work a bit harder, but that's fishing. The good news is that there are fish coming out from all three lakes and plenty of variety to keep things interesting.

Wednesday 30th September 2026 Match Results

We had 12 anglers on the bank this week, with a combined weight of 310lb caught across the two lakes.

The temperatures are holding up nicely and, more importantly, so is the fishing. While we're definitely seeing the lakes start their autumn transition, there are still plenty of fish being caught and some decent weights being put together.

Mixed Lake

1st Peter (Peg 9) - 35lb 4oz

Working Party Reminder

A quick reminder that the lakes will be closed on Sunday 11th October while we hold our Autumn Working Party.

The aim is to get on top of the autumn maintenance, consolidate the dead wood and cuttings, tidy access paths and swims, and put the fishery in the best possible position heading into winter.

Wednesday 23rd September Match Results

The weather was good, the fishing was good and, best of all, the photographer is back! A good day in the office all round.

We had 13 anglers on the bank this week, split 9 on the Match Lake and 4 on the Mixed Lake.

The Mixed Lake anglers put together 110lb of silvers between them, while the Match Lake added another 240lb. Given that only silvers were counting, those are some decent numbers.

Match Lake

The Match Lake was particularly close this week, with only a few pounds separating the top three. A fish here or there and the placings could have been very different.

It's good to see the lakes continuing to fish consistently as we move further into autumn. The recent rain has helped the water levels, the temperatures have settled down, and overall the fishery is in good shape heading into the back end of the year.

Wednesday 16th September Match Results

A good turnout this week with 12 anglers on the bank, including a new face. Welcome, Jim! Hopefully the first of many matches.

After last week's fish seemingly deciding they had better things to do, it was good to see the lakes switch back on. The anglers put together a combined weight of 310lb+, with some incredibly close weights at the top.

Results

1st Jeff - 45lb 15oz (Peg 2)

2nd Neil - 44lb 12oz (Peg 19)

3rd Steve R - 43lb 3oz (Peg 14)

4th Tony - 40lb 14oz (Peg 10)

Less than 5lb separated the top four, proving that every fish counted this week.

Unfortunately, no photos this week. Our resident photographer is still dealing with car troubles, and it turns out nobody else knows how to use the camera on a phone! 😄 Hopefully, normal service will resume next match.

It's great to see the lakes back to their usual form after last week's slowdown. With the temperatures settling down and the fish feeding more consistently, autumn is shaping up nicely.

Sunday Update – Hockley Angling Club

With the weather finally becoming a bit more bearable, we've been back out around the lakes cutting back access paths and clearing around the islands. As the vegetation starts to die back, now is a good time to get on top of things and start preparing the fishery for the months ahead.

Fishing has been a bit mixed recently. Some anglers have enjoyed some cracking catches, while others have had to work a bit harder for them. Overall, though, the recent rain has done us a favour, with water levels coming up by around an inch or two, which was badly needed after such a long dry spell.

While clearing some areas around the lakes, I've come across a few rigs that have raised an eyebrow or two, so it's probably a good time for a quick reminder:

Leads must be free-running.
Barbless hooks only.
No hooks larger than a size 8.
Please think fish safety first when setting up your tackle.

None of us like losing tackle, but if it happens, we want to make sure the fish can safely get rid of it.

As always, I wanted to share some of the catches that have been sent in over the last few weeks. A special mention goes to Paul, who managed to land a proper roach. Can anyone guess what it was caught on? We also saw another impressive 16lb+ grass carp hit the bank, proving once again that there are some cracking fish swimming around the lakes.

Whether it's a PB, an unusual capture, or just a fish you're proud of, please keep the photos coming. They're always great to share and showcase the variety of fishing we have at HAC.

Wednesday 9th September 2026 Match Results

Happy Friday!

It was definitely a tougher day in the office this week. The much-needed rain was welcomed by everyone, but the sudden influx of colder water appeared to knock the fish off the feed, resulting in a much slower week overall.

We had 11 anglers in attendance, and while weights were down on recent weeks, there were still some good fish caught for those who managed to unlock the right approach on the day.

Results
1st - Alan (Peg 10) – 31lb 9oz
2nd - Jeff (Peg 12) – 26lb 9oz
3rd - Tony (Peg 14) – 25lb 5oz

The changing conditions certainly made everyone work harder for their fish, but that's fishing. After such a long spell of warm, stable weather, it's not unusual to see the fish take a little time to adjust.

With water levels benefiting from the recent rainfall and temperatures returning to more comfortable levels, hopefully we'll see the fish switch back on over the coming weeks.
