Wednesday 2nd September 2026 Match Results

We had 11 anglers in attendance this week and, unfortunately, no match photo as our usual club photographer was having a few car troubles!

That did mean the top photo spot was up for grabs, but more importantly, it was another good day on the bank, with a combined weight of 330lb caught between the anglers.

Match Lake
πŸ₯‡ 1st - Jeff (Peg 9) – 75lb
πŸ₯ˆ 2nd - Albert (Peg 14) – 49lb 14oz
πŸ₯‰ 3rd - Alan – 37lb 9oz

Mixed Lake
πŸ₯‡ 1st - Graham (Peg 8) – 33lb 8oz
πŸ₯ˆ 2nd - Steve (Peg 19) – 29lb 7oz
πŸ₯‰ 3rd - Simon (Peg 17) – 28lb 18oz

Well done to everyone who took part, and a special mention to Jeff, whose 75lb winning weight was an impressive result.

I didn't want to leave you all empty-handed with no match photos this week, so instead here's a few shots from around the lakes to enjoy.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to support the matches and the club.

Look after yourselves, look after the fish, and we'll see you around the lakes.

Wednesday 26th August 2026 Match Results

Posting a little later than usual (even for me!), but we managed to squeeze in a short trip before the kids headed back to school. Now it's back to the day-to-day and, more importantly, back to the fishing!

The match results certainly didn't disappoint.

We had 13 anglers in attendance, split 8 on the Match Lake and 5 on the Mixed Lake, with a combined weight of over 450lb landed between all participants. That's another excellent result and a reflection of how well the lakes are fishing at the moment.

Match Lake
1st Jeff 53lbs 7oz Peg 1
2nd Alan 48lbs 10oz Peg 6
3rd Steve 33lbs 9oz Peg 9

Mixed Lake
1st Simon 35ls 2oz Peg 17
2nd Chris 33lbs Peg 9
3rd Steve 30lbs 12oz Peg 2

A big well done to everyone who took part and contributed to another enjoyable match. It's great to see strong turnouts, good catches, and members making the most of the late summer fishing.

Sunday Update – Hockley Angling Club

This week I thought I'd share some of the catches that have built up in my backlog over the last few weeks.

The tench continue to be a popular catch, the bream are feeding consistently and seem determined to beat the carp to every bait that hits the water! We've even seen a cheeky gudgeon or two coming out. Who doesn't love a gudgeon? It was actually the first fish I ever caught, and I've been hooked ever since. 😊

We're fortunate that our water levels are holding up well, especially when you see the challenges many fisheries are facing after such a long dry spell. The good news is that lake temperatures have dropped back to more reasonable levels, which has been welcomed by both the fish and the anglers.

The fishing across all three lakes continues to be strong, with plenty of variety on offer. It's great to see members enjoying catches of everything from silverfish and tench through to some lovely carp.

Private Match Lake Hire

A reminder that we offer private match lake hire. If you're part of a local club or angling group in the Essex area and are looking for a venue, please get in touch.

We still have a few dates available for the remainder of this year, and we're now taking bookings for 2027, so don't leave it too late if you'd like to secure a date.

As always, thank you to everyone who sends in photos and catch reports. They really help showcase the fantastic fishing we have here at HAC.

Wednesday Match Results – 19th August 2026

Another good turnout this week with 12 anglers taking part, split 8 on the Match Lake and 4 on the Mixed Lake.

The Match Lake continued its recent run of form, with the 8 anglers landing a fantastic 320lb of fish between them. Plenty of action throughout the day and some excellent nets being weighed in.

Over on the Mixed Lake, the 4 anglers enjoyed some quality silverfish sport, putting together a combined weight of over 130lb, proving once again that it's not just the carp that are feeding well at the moment.

That gives us a total match weight of over 450lb across the two lakes, which is a great result and shows just how well the fishery is fishing as we move through August.

Match Lake
1st Alan 87lbs 7oz Peg 1
2nd Jeff 49lbs 14oz Peg 2
3rd Tony 43lbs 2oz Peg 8

Mixed Lake
1st Peter 41lbs 7oz Peg 7
2nd Simon 37lbs 5oz Peg 19
3rd Graham 35lbs 14oz Peg 21

A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the match. It's great to see strong turnouts week after week and anglers enjoying the variety of fishing the club has to offer.

Sunday Update – Hockley Angling Club

It's been a good few weeks since I last posted an update and, honestly, all I have is excuses!

A lot of my time has been spent cutting back vegetation around the lakes and keeping a close eye on water temperatures and oxygen levels during the warmer weather.

With that in mind, I'm pleased to say that our aeration project is now complete, with the Carp Lake recently having its diffuser system installed. This means all three lakes now benefit from extra aeration systems, which is a significant investment in the future of the fishery.

In the short term, the systems will help maintain healthy oxygen levels during periods of warm weather. The longer-term benefits should be substantial, including:
β€’ Improved water quality.
β€’ Healthier fish growth and overall fish welfare.
β€’ Reduced risk of low-oxygen events during hot weather and other challenging conditions.

The fishing has continued to be excellent, and I've now built up quite a backlog of catches throughout August.

The tench continue to show well, with some lovely fish being caught, alongside a few barbel that have put in appearances despite the heat. It's great to see such a variety of species being caught across the fishery.

The Carp Lake has also produced a new lake record (since we took over), with a carp weighing 21lb 8oz. Unfortunately, all I have to go on is a good description and a rather blurry photo of a foot, but it's encouraging to see some of the larger fish starting to show themselves!

Finally, we've recently passed the 2,000 follower mark on Facebook. I can only thank all of you for taking an interest in our fishery, supporting the club, sharing our updates, and providing such positive feedback. Whether you're a long-standing member, a day guest, or simply enjoy following what we're doing, your support is genuinely appreciated.

Always, please keep the catch reports and photos coming. They're what make these updates worthwhile and help showcase the fantastic fishing we have here at HAC.

Wednesday Match Results – 12th August 2026

Another excellent turnout this week, with 11 anglers taking part in Wednesday's match.

The fishing certainly switched on, with a fantastic combined weight of 390lb landed across the field. Even more impressively, five anglers recorded over 40lb each, showing just how well the lakes are fishing at the moment.

The recent work around the fishery, combined with slightly more favourable conditions, appears to be paying dividends, and it's great to see anglers enjoying some consistent sport.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the match. It's encouraging to see the continued participation and friendly competition week after week.

Wednesday Match Results – 5th August 2026

Another warm one, so we stuck with the earlier start time to help beat the worst of the heat and keep fish welfare at the forefront.

We had 12 anglers fishing today's match, producing a very respectable combined weight of 290lb. While not quite matching some of the huge weights we've seen recently, it was still a solid day's fishing with plenty of fish showing around the lake.

A big thank you to everyone for their continued support and cooperation during the warmer weather. The earlier starts, combined with the aeration systems running when needed, are helping us manage conditions while still enjoying some great fishing.

Match Lake
1st Graham 57lbs 2oz peg 1
2nd Alan 44lbs 4oz peg 6
3rd Gary 39lbs 15oz peg 8
4th Jeff 27lbs 1oz peg 9
5th Steve R 25lbs 7oz peg 14

Well done, all!

Wednesday 29th July Match Results

Apologies for the Wednesday match results appearing on a Friday. Let's just say my phone decided to go for a swim and, unfortunately, it turns out it doesn't float and isn't a particularly strong swimmer!

Despite another hot day, the fishing was excellent. We had 8 anglers taking part, who managed a combined weight of over 350lb between them, which is a fantastic effort in the conditions.

With the warmer weather continuing, the diffusers were left running throughout the day to help maintain oxygen levels, and the earlier finish certainly helped us avoid the worst of the heat from 3pm onwards.

A big thank you to everyone for supporting the match and helping to put fish welfare first during these challenging conditions. It's great to see the lakes continuing to fish so well.

Match Lake

1st Tony 65lbs 5oz peg 14
2nd Gary 61lbs 8oz peg 12
3rd Alan 58lbs 1oz peg 4
4th Steve 40lbs 7oz peg 6

Well done, all.

HAC - Match Update

Following this evening's checks, the match can go ahead tomorrow, but we'll be making it an earlier start at 9am to avoid as much of the heat as possible.

Apologies for the late notice. I've been closely monitoring the water temperatures and oxygen levels over the last few days and wanted to see how the lakes fared later into the evening before making a final decision.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

See you in the morning.

Wednesday, 22nd July 2026 Match Results

We had 10 anglers attend this week's Wednesday match, and with a welcome drop in temperature, the fishing conditions were much more comfortable for both anglers and fish.

The good news is that all of the lakes are fishing really well at the moment, with plenty of fish, healthy catch reports, and I now have a solid backlog of pictures for my Sunday update.

Now, if everyone could do a rain dance or whatever your preferred method is for encouraging a decent downpour, that would be greatly appreciated! πŸ˜„.

Match Lake
1st Alan 70lbs 3oz peg 14
2nd Gary 46lbs 7oz peg 9
3rd Steve 43lbs 13oz peg 1

Well done, all!
