One of those events where the scorecard doesn’t tell the whole story! Huge amounts learnt by both of us, and completion became the order of the day.
A good dressage test, despite two expensive mistakes, left us lying third overnight. Plenty to be pleased with and a glimpse of what he is capable of.
Showjumping was disappointing. He found the early morning ground slippery, and I let him down by not having the appropriate studs in to support his grip. We finished with one fence down and two time penalties. A lesson for me and something to get right next time.
We set off across country with determination, and he felt fantastic in his balance and stride pattern. Unfortunately, we were held on course before the first water. Once restarted, we picked up penalties at the brush into water, with its uphill approach and landing almost straight into the water. He struggled to read the question initially, but we did jump the element, then treated the rest as an educational round to reach the finish flags.
Not the result we hoped for, but valuable experience for us both. There is plenty to take home and work on, alongside some really encouraging moments. All part of building our partnership and finding our feet at this level. 💪
