[05/16/21]   The long-awaited reopening! As a livery yard we have been fortunate to remain open for clients throughout the pandemic but it hasn't been the same without the G&D in full operation! Looking forwards to when we can finally arrange a yard outing but this is a good start!

Entries open on 17th May for FHHT 2021! The Intermediate will remain almost the same as previous years as it is already straightforward, however we intend to make the BE100 and Novice suitable for first-timers, in recognition of the lack of match practice many of us have had this and last season. The courses will be open for schooling afterwards, ground permitting.

Bronia and event horse Albert demonstrating a fun exercise to work on the horse's agility and jumping fitness. With a strong/keen horse the lack of ground rails and placing poles makes it easier for the rider to be soft through the lines so the horse can use himself correctly. Start with poles on the ground at 3m and introduce fences gradually to make sure your horse is ready for each added step. When jumping you may need to lengthen the poles to approx 3.5m but adjust to suit your horse, with a focus on maintaining a forward, soft rhythm where the poles fit easily into the stride pattern as shown here! Fences here are 80cm, which still gives Albert a good workout.

OJM Farm Contractors

PART TIME DELIVERY DRIVER WANTED

OJM Farm Contractors are seeking a part time driver to deliver small and large bale forage and bedding to our highly valued equine customers using our Nissan Cabstar tipper truck.

The ideal candidate would have some knowledge of hay, straw, haylage and be available to work on a part time basis on Thursdays and Fridays. The two days can be flexible, but two consecutive days is preferred.

Further days may be available during peak times (helping with wrapping small bales, deliveries and fencing).

You will need a can-do attitude and must be physically fit for this manual role as manual loading and unloading of small bales is required.

We are looking for a team player who is responsible, thoughtful and capable of looking after our vehicles and machinery.

In return we can offer competitive rates of pay dependent upon experience, a pension scheme and paid annual holiday.

The applicant must:

• Have some knowledge of hay, straw and haylage
• Have a friendly ‘can do’ attitude
• Be over the age of 18
• Have a clean UK driving license
• Have a reasonable amount of knowledge of the West Berkshire roads.

OJM Farm Contractors specialises in small bales and delivering high quality forage and bedding to the equestrian market. In addition to this we offer other farm services such as haymaking, hedge trimming, fencing and paddock maintenance. We operate across West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire and strive to deliver top customer service.

No accommodation.

Final touches going on. This is not a normal schooling venue, the fences have been dressed and shortened courses of 90, 100 and Novice created in half the park as event preparation to get people up and running. Show jumps arrive on Monday and will be placed in the XC field. We will keep the dressings refreshed and may vary the arrangement if still open next month.

Our cross country is open for bookings! First date is 6th June, numbers will be limited and must comply with the law and our COVID-19 measures. We have reduced the price to £25 to reflect the current situation. Professionals attend with work colleagues (ie grooms) in any number as this is their working day but others must follow the guidance for leisure sports (meeting only one other outside your household). BE100 and Novice fences will be out with various options to make it harder/easier. Book on below link or email [email protected]. http://farleyestate.co.uk/Equestrian/events-calendar.html

Farley Hall Horse Trials

We are sorry to announce that this year's horse trials on 20th-21st June 2020 has been cancelled. We hope to run on another date or next year. In the meantime we will put the BE100 and Novice courses out in a schooling formation as well as some show jumps on grass, you will be able to book online at www.farleyestate.co.uk once we have everything ready. Whilst we are sad to lose our trials this year, BE have made a decision which places human life and safety above sports and we know that they will only give the green light to competition when they are confident in delivering it safely. To have this decision taken out of our hands and made by the governing body is a relief, knowing that they know the most about what is and isn't possible. This is what we all pay our membership for and I urge those who can afford to support BE this year to do so, so we can be sure of having the same professional standard of sport to return to.

Farley Hall Equestrian Centre

[05/12/20]   Sport England and the BHS have made announcements today regarding the resumption of some sporting activities. It's important to remember that some centres have been completely closed since March. We have been open to clients with strict social distancing rules in place. It will be a logistical exercise to extend our current activities without encouraging too many people onto the site, therefore it is likely we will allow a gradual change until we are back to full training/visitors. In the meantime just contact [email protected] or [email protected] for further information.

Farley Farms & Estate

We are very proud of Lady Bearsted for reinstating her medical license despite suffering from a chronic chest disease. She is not sure what she will be tasked with but she will support the front-line via email/phone as needed.

26/03/2020

Some tight restrictions in place but we are lucky to have essential work out in the fresh air keeping our animals healthy and entertained. Unfortunately the construction of our new lorry park will have to go on hold but otherwise our horses won't have noticed too much other than their lives are a bit easier than normal!

24/03/2020

We have implemented most of these measures and have a schedule of times clients will visit to space them out throughout the day.

Worried about how to care for your horse and stay safe during this worrying time? The British Equestrian Federation's latest update contains advice and recommendations about what you can do to ensure your own and your horse's health and wellbeing.

Farley Farms & Estate

At Farley Farms we support the NHS in its campaign against Coronavirus. This is not a holiday, this is an historic global health crisis. Farming must continue, our horses must be kept healthy, our tenants must be looked after, but we are minimising all social contact even in the workplace. Children don't have to be out mingling in groups as I've seen in the last few days, this isn't a chance for you to gather in groups for fun. Do your bit. Stay at home. And ask if you need help.

17/03/2020

Farley Hall Horse Trials

Truly unprecedented times. At present the length of this suspension is unknown so Farley will wait and see. In the meantime those of you who would have been competing/volunteering who are in good health and under 70, find out who in your community needs your support and use your suddenly vacant weekends to help them at this dark time.

19/01/2020

Due to maternity leave we have vacancies for part-time grooms from February, weekends or weekdays but must start at 7am (finish time can be flexible). Full-time grooms feel free to apply as that is another option though may be only for 11 month maternity cover. Please email [email protected] or PM thank you!

Crofton Manor

In light of the EHV outbreak at Crofton Manor and until it becomes clearer whether cases have spread elsewhere, Farley Hall EC is closed to equine visitors and our horses will not be travelling off site. Hopefully more information will circulate after the weekend about what level of risk there is to other equestrian venues. Fortunately none of our horses have recently visited Crofton Manor. We urge those with horses who have to heed the veterinary advice to isolate their horses and not to be tempted to travel them to further venues before the incubation period has expired. The equestrian community thanks Crofton for announcing the outbreak so others can take precautionary measures and wish them well in handling the awful situation.

******IMPORTANT INFORMATION******
It is with regret, that we have to inform you that we have positive cases of EHV-1 (Equine Herpes Virus) here at Crofton Manor. The veterinary advice we have been given is that, if you have attended Crofton Manor recently, to contact your own vet to seek advice reference testing. We are on complete lock down and all shows and hire bookings are cancelled until further notice. All entries/bookings made for January will be refunded over the next few days. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We will update you with any further information when we have it.

Thank you to Balfour Beatty and MC International for their excellent work moving this humungous soil bund to another part of the estate. This is a one-off piece of work that will continue tomorrow, and conclude 27-29th December. The roads are being swept daily by these very professional crews and mess kept to a minimum.
