Before we promote tonight’s run it seems like we need to do a little myth busting!
We’ve been asked a few times recently if our club is ‘female only’, and the answer to that is simple.
The Play Yard Social Run Club is for EVERYONE. We welcome all genders, ages (including children), abilities, experience and fitness levels. You can even bring your dog.
We hope that clears that up! See you at 6:30pm!

Come along and join us tomorrow evening at 6:30pm, starting at The Play Yard.
▪️New To Running: Accumulate a total distance of 3KM via a combination of walking and jogging.
▪️Competent Runners: 3KM run at a comfortable, conversational pace (with walking if necessary).
▪️Confident Runners: 5KM Run at a comfortable, conversational pace.
The Play Yard Social Run Club is open to all genders, ages, abilities and experience and is FREE.
We believe running should remain free of charge because it is a fundamental human movement and a universal public health resource. Keeping it accessible ensures that physical and mental well-being is not tied to personal wealth, removing financial barriers for low-income communities and encouraging broad, lifelong participation in fitness.

We’re adding to our weekly programme of club runs with the introduction of a weekly Thursday ‘Long’ Run.
Now when we say ‘long’, what we actually mean is ‘further than 5K’, which is the furthest any of our members ever run on our regular Monday and Wednesday sessions.
So how far will it be? Well that’s up to you! If you want to improve your aerobic endurance, push for further distances or would like to work toward a target distance such as a 10K, Half Marathon or even a full Marathon, then this session is made for you. Come along, tell us what your goals are and we will tailor the sessions to suit your goals.
The pace will be conversational and steady; designed so you can talk comfortably without getting out of breath and led by a Run Leader who will ensure no one is left behind.
Our first session will be this Thursday! Interested? Drop us a message to let us know.

There are many ways to run and each has its own unique purpose and benefits.
To see tangible and measurable improvements in your endurance, speed, fitness and overall running ability then incorporating these different types of run into your training will help you toward achieving your individual goals.

Is it just us or does having an ‘active’ Monday set the tone for your training for the rest of the week? Having a positive start to the week with a run typically means that it’ll be a great week of physical activity!
Exercise feels easier in a group so why not get out and get it done with us tonight and start your week in the best way? Join us at 6:30pm at The Play Yard.

Running in the heat hits different 🥵 Here’s how to do it without wrecking yourself or letting it ruin your progress by avoiding running altogether. Save and share with your running bestie 🏃♂️🏃♀️
HYDRATE LIKE IT’S YOUR JOB 💧
Drink before you’re thirsty. Thirsty = Already behind.
SLOW YOUR ROLL 🐢
Heat = harder effort at the same pace. Ego down, pace down.
SALT IS YOUR FRIEND 🧂
Big sweat = Big electrolyte loss. Pinch of salt or an electrolyte tab keeps cramps away.
DRESS LIKE YOU MEAN IT 👕
Light colours + breathable fabric.
Save the thick cotton tees for when the usual Welsh weather returns.

Second club run of the week this evening and it was a warm one!
Nonetheless, our Couch to 5K group showed up in force to take on their most challenging run to date, and in spite of the heat adding an extra level of difficulty, every single runner absolutely smashed it right out of the park!
With just four weeks remaining of their Couch to 5K training plan, the group are heading into uncharted territory in terms of both running time and distance, but after tonight’s effort there’s no doubt that they are more than ready to take on the challenges ahead!
