After asking our SEND parents what impact coming to the SEND parent support group has had on their mental well-being and stress levels, we realised from the responses just how valuable the group is. Fr our SEND parents, it is often a lifeline, a safe haven, a place that they can offload and go home feeling lighter. The weight of the SEND world can bear heavy on parents' shoulders. At PAL Community CIC, we aim to lessen that load and help carry it.

We asked our parents who attend the PAL Community CIC SEND parent support group to tell us a little about the impact that attending PAL has had on their mental health and stress levels, and this response really touched us. This response came from one of the longest-standing members of the PAL Community and spoke openly and honestly about the very reasons that PAL Community was established.

It's so nice to receive feedback that PAL Community CIC has made a real difference in the lives of some of our SEND Parents. Since attending meetings, the person providing this feedback feels seen, heard and supported, and this is why we exist; this is the reason we work so hard to provide the groups every month. If we can make just one parent feel seen, then we have achieved so much, as SEND parents are at greater risk of social isolation and exclusion in comparison to neurotypical parents.

We asked our SEND parents and families how they felt before coming to PAL. This comment was one of the most telling and insightful, and made us realise that there are so many SEND parents in our community who feel this exact same way, lost and angry at the system. Then they find PAL Community CIC, and things change. At PAL, we aim to transform the lives of SEND parents and their families through education, knowledge and empowerment.

If you are feeling lost and angry, come along to our next group meeting on Wednesday 2nd September at The Gerard Arms pub (function room), Dentons Green Lane, St.Helens from 6.30 p.m onwards. You will receive a warm and friendly welcome and find that you are amongst friends that you didn't realise you had yet.

Life before attending our PAL parent support group was different for many of our SEND parents, and they have given us some feedback about how their lives have been changed positively by attending our group.

If you are thinking about or have thought about attending our group, then please come along and join our wonderful community of SEND parents. This group exists so that SEND parents can support other SEND parents and share nuggets of information and advice that can literally transform lives. We offer practical and sound advice and support, and our vision is to empower parents and educate about the SEND system.

From all the feedback we received in relation to what a safe sensory room and cinema space would mean to our SEND families, this comment really touched our hearts. SEND parents and families are socially isolated and often excluded from the community, and they often feel they have nowhere to belong and no space where they can fully relax and know they are understood and accepted and that their children and young people are safe.

This is the reason that PAL Community CIC exists and why we are working so hard to create a local sensory room and cinema space for SEND children, young people and their families. We want to offer them a space to belong, where they can relax and feel comfortable and share experiences with one another.
