This one will stay with us for a long time to come! So proud of what our young carer leaders achieved and delivered.
On a sunny summer afternoon recently, our Education Worker Shuna, attended a superhero-themed sports event organised by local young carers in Sheffield.
These wonderful young people led a programme of multisport activities to around 30 children from Shooters Grove Primary School and Hallam Primary schools, with lots of smiles and enjoyment. It was an incredible event and a showcase of the impact that Sheffield Young Carers education work has had in our city.
A teacher who attended the event said ‘One particular young person has grown so much in confidence, bloomed like a flower, I am so so proud of them.’
Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this special day happen Arches School Sport Partnership Your School Games

🌟 Everyday Heroes: Active Change 🌟
Today was the culmination of months of commitment, creativity and courage from a very inspiring group of young people.
Everyday Heroes: Active Change was designed and delivered by young carers, for young carers, creating opportunities for belonging, resilience, confidence and social connection through physical activity.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the journey these young people have been on. Many had never held a sports leadership role before. Yet over the course of the project, they developed the confidence to share ideas, make decisions, plan activities, design the event logo, create the event T-shirts and ultimately lead a superhero themed opportunity for nearly 40 primary school children to be active.
As young carers, free time is often limited. The responsibilities they carry in their personal lives can mean that opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity are restricted compared to many of their peers. This project recognised those challenges and intentionally created a space designed with young carers in mind, space where they could be creative, active, have fun and be role models.
Throughout the process, they discovered strengths they didn't know they had. They worked collaboratively, solved problems, supported one another and showed incredible determination to turn their vision into reality. The result was an event that not only celebrated physical activity but empowered other young carers to feel connected, included and valued.
The project also highlights the vital role that school time physical activity opportunities play for young carers. For many, the school day offers the most accessible and consistent opportunity to be active, develop confidence, build friendships and experience the positive benefits of movement. Ensuring these opportunities exist is essential if we are to reduce inequalities and help every young person thrive.
Today, these young people proved that when we invest in youth voice and trust them to lead, they can create meaningful change. They created an experience that reflected their lived experiences and made a genuine and heartfelt difference to others.
We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. Their leadership, creativity and commitment have left a lasting impact, and demonstrated tenfold what it means to be an Everyday Hero.
