It’s been a trip to Kiveton Waters today and I’ve drawn Peg 7 Roses which I was happy with.

I’ve fished method, bomb and pellet and it’s fished tough. I’ve fed well and casting has been really consistent. I’ve ended up with 39lb which was 5th on the lake, for no return, but I’ve really enjoyed the day fishing.

Where did it go wrong today? With the water being really pressured at the moment I don’t think I’ve left the feeder in long enough, there’s been fish there but they didn’t want to get their heads down. Hopefully better luck next week.

Today I’ve been back at Embryo Kiveton Waters for a look at how it’s fishing before the winter leagues get started.

I’ve drawn down the arm peg 28 which I felt would be difficult. Pegs 30-31 were both in also so that gave me a little space to work with.

I’ve aimed to fish method, bomb and pellet, and after 30 minute the rods gone round and a big lump has decide to tare off up the lake and I’ve ended up losing it in the reeds.

I’ve then thrown the bomb and pellet out and that’s gone round and I nice chunk has been landed. It’s fished really hard thereafter, but I’ve managed to put a few more fish in the net which has been good enough for the section win.

Overall the lake has fished really moody, it might take a few weeks for the fish to settle as we head into autumn.

Sunday we were back home from Spain and I was in a match and drew a peg that doesn’t normally feature in the results. I’ve drawn mid lake with a bit of depth but quite a silty bottom.

I’ve decided to fish aggressively and try to force the fish into getting their heads down. It’s fished really tough, I didn’t get my first fish until 50 minutes, which was probably due to my aggressive feeding from the off. I’ve had loads of feed bubbles but the rod just wouldn’t go round. I think the carp were heads down in the silt and possibly covering the method.

I’ve then had a good run of fish and thought I’d cracked it, only for the swim to die and thereafter just had the odd fish.

I’ve tried all sorts, swapping from method, to bomb and pellet, and even over to waggler to see if my feeding had brought them up in the water. I’ve seen a few big carp appear in my margins but that was nearly 4ft deep and I missed a couple of bites but wasted an hour fishing for nothing.

Anyway time was called and at the weigh in, 75lb has won off the favoured peg 32, I’ve ended up with 55lb for the section I think.

The 3 lost fish and lack of bites for 2 hours has not helped but that’s fishing.

I’ve got a few things to try for fishing over silt next week so hopefully I can report on a better outcome.

Humbled by a fish!
After a 25 minutes battle, this Tuna decided she wanted off. This was when I realised how powerful these fish are, this one maybe 100kg. I managed to get her just 20 meters from the boat before she dived for freedom.

Some of the ones lost were 250-300kg, just too much for us, strength is only part of the game, I’d say 90% technique which we didn’t have🤣.

What a few days fishing it’s been in Spain.

We’ve not had many but we’ve had a few decent fish in Mequinenza and then travelled to the coast for a big game fishing charter which has been epic, just when you think you can handle any fish you get faced with reality.
