We've had lots of fun at Dronfield Juniors Year 5/6 Forest Skills club this term. From elderflower fritters to penguin week, hapa zome to supersized smores and mini rafts.

We love getting our hands messy and two of our most popular projects have been making japanese mud balls (hikaru dordango), which is wonderfully meditative and we had a whole production line going, and playing with oobleck, a non-Newtonian fluid made from cornflour and water.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this year, it's been wonderful working with you. We wish all the best to those going on to secondary school. We will miss you! We hope everyone has a fabulous summer holiday and we look forward to more wonderful sessions again in September!

🌿 What a wonderful half term we’ve had on our Wednesday Dobcroft sessions Forest Skills🌿

As we head into the summer holidays, we wanted to share some of the fantastic things the children have been enjoying outdoors over the last few weeks.

We’ve been busy creating Elder Wood Father’s Day keyrings, making the famous armpit fudge, experimenting with turmeric sun prints, and celebrating the Strawberry Moon with strawberries and jam crackers šŸ“šŸŒ•

The children have also loved our water pistol target competitions, making fruit kebabs, and taking part in lots of energetic water sponge games to keep cool and have fun in the sunshine ā˜€ļøšŸ’¦

It has been a joy to watch their confidence, creativity, teamwork and curiosity grow through outdoor play and exploration.
A very special good luck to all of our Year 2 children as they move up to the juniors — we are so proud of each and every one of you and can’t wait to hear about your next adventure šŸŽ’āœØ
To our new little ones joining us and all of our existing children returning in September, we can’t wait to welcome you back for another exciting year of Forest Skills filled with mud, magic, campfires and adventure šŸŒ²šŸ”„šŸ‚

Thank you to all of our families for your continued support. Have a safe, happy and adventure-filled summer! šŸ’š

What a fantastic final term we had at Nether Green Juniors Year 3/4 club. From toasting supersized smores to making ice cream in a bag. We used hammers to create works of art and practised our teamwork skills making more nordic slinging bracelets. We had a water fight, made cooling smoothies and went on an adventure to the woods.

Our last week had a pirate theme, with a treasure hunt puzzle and mini raft building challenge.

It's been a pleasure working with you all this year. Have a great summer holiday and I look forward to more adventures in September!

Flashback to last week’s session on Thursday (in the middle of the heatwave!!)
We adapted and the children were their usual brilliant selves in ā€˜going with the flow!’ One of our older children (who has been with us since Y1) trained a younger group member up on feeding the hungry hoard! This involved taking orders and operating the ā€˜solar oven ā€˜ that we’d made out of a box with tin foil, to make s’mores.

Meanwhile, the ā€œmocktailā€ table was proving highly popular- frozen berries with melted ice-cream, apple juice, water and fizzy water blended to their individual requests!

We’d got chilled activities going on such as ā€˜mud painting’, relaxing in the hammocks and plenty of natural shade.

We finished off the session with ā€˜guarding the treasure’ game. Armed with a blindfold and a water pistol, our dragons protected ā€˜the hand bell treasure’ from those trying to steal it.

It was a session of fun, plenty of hydration, children of all ages demonstrating amazing cooperation skills with each other and showing resilience, maturity and feeling comfortable with our natural surroundings.

As always, an absolute pleasure.

Two more sessions left at Totley this school year (we break up on 9th July) let’s make them count!

More of an active session last night at Monday Fitkids Forest Skills After School’s club, and appreciating the cooler air!
We devised our own FS Games with an obstacle course devised by the children, egg and spoon, skittles, target throwing and the obligatory Pine Cone World Cup game going on in the corner!

We had a chill out zone with board games that the children enjoy and a ā€˜make your own Forest skills wood cookie medal’ for what you enjoy most about our time together as a group.

I loved how the egg and spoon component, then evolved into creating a structure to roll the wooden eggs along. There were so many lessons learnt in the process; adapting, conversations, problem solving and celebrating their achievements when it worked! This occurs so naturally in this little group and is such a wonderful by product of embracing the Forest School ethos.

We rounded off the session with a little fire practice and a quick fire for hotdogs and juice.

I’m so proud of each and every one of this enthusiastic little bunch, who throw themselves into everything I do with them on a Monday.

Thank you.
