I’ve been coaching now for nearly 20 years... but really, I think this journey started about 25 years ago
Before Instagram... before social media... before you could find everything on YouTube
I remember ordering VHS tapes from America to learn about plyometrics... speed drills... jumping drills... sports conditioning
At Christmas, instead of asking for PlayStations and Xboxes, I’d be asking for books about strength and conditioning 😂
I’d study them... then practise everything on myself to try and become a better ice hockey player
I was obsessed with getting fitter... stronger... faster... better
And looking back, that’s probably where my coaching journey really started
Since then I’ve just never stopped learning...
There was a period where I listened to around 400 podcasts in a year on exercise science... anatomy... training... nutrition
I’ve travelled around learning from incredible coaches... invested in courses... seminars... mentorships... and hired some of the best coaches I could find
Over the last 20 years I’ve probably invested somewhere between £120,000-£130,000 into my own education and coaching
Which sounds absolutely mental when I write it down 😂
But fitness has completely changed my life...
It helped a skinny kid who didn’t have loads of confidence start to believe in himself
It gave me something to work towards... something to get better at... eventually a career... and now a business that I genuinely love
And the best part is everything I’ve learned... everything I’ve tested on myself... everything other coaches have taught me...
I now get to use to help other people change their lives too
Nearly 20 years into coaching... and I still want to learn... still want to improve... still want to become a better coach
There’s obviously a business attached to what I do... it’s how I provide for my family
But that’s never been the reason I fell in love with it...
I just absolutely love this game ❤️

Most people think they need more motivation...I don’t...
I think they need better standards
In this episode…
I explain the difference between motivation and standards, why motivation is unreliable, and why the people who achieve lasting results build their lives around non negotiable habits instead of waiting until they ‘feel like it’...
This simple mindset shift could completely change the way you approach your health and fitness...

Anyone else absolutely love people watching? 😂
I could sit on a bench in a city centre and watch people all day 😂
I'm fascinated by people... how they dress... how they carry themselves... their personalities... mannerisms... just how different we all are
And I noticed something when I was on holiday recently...
Over the course of the week there were probably 30 different families around the pool
And out of all the dads there... I'd say maybe 2 were in what I'd consider really good shape
But it wasn't actually their physiques that stood out to me...
It was how differently people seemed to carry themselves
The energy...
The confidence...
The willingness to get up and play with the kids...
Feeling comfortable taking their T-shirt off...
Being in the photos rather than avoiding them...
And it got me thinking about how many men just accept feeling s**t as part of getting older
You hit your 30s or 40s... your back hurts... you're tired all the time... you've gained a couple of stone... you don't feel confident anymore...
But everyone else is the same... so you tell yourself it's normal
"I've got kids now"
"I don't have time"
"This is just what happens when you get older"
And I just don't believe it has to be that way...
I've coached so many men who started in exactly that place
And I've seen what can happen in 6-12 months when somebody decides enough is enough
Yes... their body changes
But that's only part of it
They've got more energy...
They feel confident taking their T-shirt off...
They want to be in the family photos...
They're running around with their kids instead of watching from the sunbed...
They start carrying themselves differently
And ultimately... they start feeling proud of the man looking back at them in the mirror
For me that's what getting in shape is really about...
It's not abs...
It's not looking better than the other dads around the pool...
It's becoming a version of yourself that allows you to give more to the people you love
& if you've spent the last few years telling yourself that feeling tired... overweight... unfit... and lacking confidence is just part of getting older...
It doesn't have to be ❤️

Things I’m most proud of this week... 👇🏻
Family ❤️...
5/5 kids’ bedtimes
2 football sessions with Noah
Took the kids to their first athletics session
Played Jenga with the kids
Played Nintendo Switch with the kids
And just spent some real quality time together (at least 2-3 hours per day)
Health & fitness 💪🏻...
5 training sessions
Ate well all week
Kept breakfast + lunch really simple with 2 x 500 calorie shakes....Almond milk, whey protein, fruit + ice
That’s given me 1,000 calories of good quality food during the day while leaving me plenty of flexibility for an evening meal with the family...
And when I say flexible, I’m not talking burger and chips every night 😂...
Chicken pesto pasta
Spaghetti bolognese
Homemade hot dogs
Homemade chicken curry
Normal food... eaten with my family
Business 💻...
19 x 1-1 coaching sessions
34 x client check-ins
3 x training plans written
4 x podcast episodes recorded
And I’m sharing this because I’m proud of the week I’ve had...
But also because none of this happens by accident
The reason I’ve got the energy to show up for my family...
The reason I can put so much into my clients and my business...
Is because I have standards around my own health and fitness
What I put into my body
How often I train
How much I move
How I look after myself
I’m not just focusing on work...
I’m focusing on my family
My health
My fitness
And my business
For me, your health and fitness is the table that supports everything else...
What you can give to your family
What you can give to your career
What you can give to your business
And I wouldn’t have been able to have the week I’ve had without those standards in place

We’re constantly being told that getting in shape is easy...
Train a couple of times a week
Eat whatever you want as long as it fits your calories
Don’t overcomplicate it
But is that really the full story?
In this episode, I share my thoughts on what it actually takes to build a great physique and why I believe the fitness industry sometimes sells the dream rather than the reality...
If you’re tired of chasing shortcuts and want an honest conversation about long term success, this one’s for you...
