βοΈ The Met Office has issued a Heat-Health Alert for the North East:
β’ A Yellow Heat-Health Alert is in effect from 11am on 22 June 2026 until 11pm on 26 June 2026.
β’ An Amber Heat-Health Alert will be in effect from 1am on 24 June 2026 until 11pm on 25 June 2026.
Hot weather causes increased risk to the health of vulnerable individuals. Please see the tips below for keeping yourself and those you care for safe during hot weather:
β’ drink more cold drinks, especially if you're active or exercising
β’ wear light-coloured, loose clothing
β’ wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses
β’ use sun cream with at least SPF 30 and 4 star UVA protection
β’ avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm
β’ avoid excess alcohol
β’ avoid extreme exercise
β’ if you're inside on a very hot day, close curtains, close windows if it's hotter outside than in your home and turn off electrical equipment and lights that get hot. This will also prevent dehydration and help your body keep itself cool.
β’ never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children, older people or animals
Thereβs a high risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke during periods of hot weather. Heat exhaustion occurs when our body is unable to cool itself down. Look out for signs of:
β’ a headache
β’ dizziness and confusion
β’ loss of appetite and feeling sick
β’ excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin
β’ cramps in the arms, legs and stomach
β’ fast breathing or pulse
β’ a high temperature of 38oC or above

β¨ A wonderful end to Carers Week at the LiveWell Hub β¨
There was plenty to celebrate at the LiveWell Hub as the newly transformed courtyard was officially opened on Thursday (11 June) πΏ
Marking a fitting end to Carers Week, staff, carers and service users were joined by Councillor Pauline Beall, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, to enjoy a lovely afternoon of tea and sconesβπ°
Despite the rain making a brief appearance, spirits stayed high as everyone explored the refreshed garden. The courtyard now features a new gazebo, improved paving, AstroTurf, comfortable garden furniture, colourful decorations and beautiful planters full of vibrant blooms πΈ
And of courseβ¦ visitors might even spot our two mischievous fox cubs, whoβve been sneaking in to enjoy the garden themselves! π¦π¦
This fantastic transformation will be enjoyed by service users, their carers and families for years to come. A huge thank you goes to our wonderful team of volunteer gardeners whose hard work and dedication have brought this space to lifeπ

πΏ Carers Week Health Walk β Stockton Mobile Library Service πΏ
To mark Carers Week, Stockton Mobile Library Service was delighted to support a special health walk in partnership with the LiveWell Hub in Thornaby.
Participants followed the Stockton Town Centre Heritage Trail, created by the fantastic team at Stockton Reference Library. It was a lovely event, and even a few showers didnβt dampen spirits! βοΈ
Along the way, the group explored local landmarks and uncovered some fascinating snippets of history, including learning about Nebo Creams, which sparked plenty of interest and conversation.
After the walk, everyone returned to the library for a well-earned cuppa and a small presentation, where participants received certificates to celebrate their involvement. βοΈπ
It was a wonderful way to bring people together, promote wellbeing, and recognise the vital contribution of unpaid carers in our community.
Carers Week is all about raising awareness, connecting carers with support, and ensuring they feel valued and this event was a great example of that in action.
π A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day so special.
