Caledonian Medal Final

Well done to Ken who won the medal on Wednesday with nett 68, Geordie in 2nd with net 70 and Colin in 3rd with net 70 loosing out on the last 9 holes.

I’m guessing the ones who were higher didn’t qualify and were only playing for handicap 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

Married life is clearly suiting John Warhorse who had the best round of his life with a net 61, gross 77 and hopefully another cut in his handicap 🤩 👏🏻

2026 Gus Matheson Team Event – Over 50s v Under 50s

The 2026 Gus Matheson Team Event took place on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th September at Stornoway Golf Club, with the Over 50s and Under 50s battling it out for the trophy.

A fantastic couple of days of golf, competition and camaraderie, while also raising a brilliant £600 for a very worthy local cause.

Friday evening saw the doubles competition, with the Under 50s taking an early lead, 8–1.

Saturday was all about the singles, where the Over 50s fought back to win 13½–6½.

Some bragging rites results for the Over 50’s 🤩🥳 (apologies to the Under 50’s)

DA beat David 5&3

John Warhorse beat Kenny Murray 8&7

John Paddy beat Oliver 4&2

The result means this year’s Gus Matheson competition finishes in a draw, and, as last year’s winners, the Under 50s retain the trophy.

Nearest the pin winners -

Ard Choille: Oliver Maciver

The Short: Eddy Rogers

Whins: Scott Maciver

The Ditch: James the Butcher

Forresters: Paul MacLeod

The Avenue: Colin Gilmour

Longest Drive 50+: Andrew Reeves

Longest Drive (under 50): Eddy Rogers (but prize went to Tyson as only one prize per person)

Left Handed Drive: Stevie Munro

The event raised money in support of cancer support, with £600 donated to a local charity.

Event organiser and Under 50s captain Lewis Mackenzie would like to extend a huge thank you to all the sponsors for their generous support:

MEPG Power Systems

SP Tiling & Joinery

Innes Smith Architects

Stornoway Skip Hire

Make Up by Anete Stewart

MacQueen Joinery

Macleod & Macleod Butchers

Al Greens

Tex

Thanks also to the Stornoway Golf Club greens and bar staff for all their hard work, Macleod & Macleod Butchers for donating the rolls and burgers, and George Macleod for coordinating the results.

Well done to everyone who took part and helped make the 2026 Gus Matheson Team Event such a success!

LAST FEW SPACES REMAINING - NOT TO BE MISSED

🍛 We're excited to welcome Captain Pushp Vaid to Stornoway Golf Club on 12th Sept, where he will cook a 3-course Indian buffet.

🚁 He is a retired helicopter pilot based in Aberdeenshire who, after serving in the Indian Army, spent many years working in the North Sea oil industry.

😔 In Nov 1986, there was a tragic helicopter crash off the coast of Shetland where a Chinook suffered a mechanical failure and plunged into the sea. Sadly, only two of the 47 people on board survived: Captain Pushp was one of them.

⛳️ Pushp is now aged 85, and spends his time playing golf, cooking, and doing yoga. He frequently helps raise money for charity by cooking for large groups. We've picked RNLI Stornoway as the charity for this Curry Night ⚓️🛟

DJ equals course record 🤩🥳
Sadly due to a family bereavement DJ had to cancel his plans to play in the SPGA finals at Newmachar this week.

Instead he was able to play in the Centenary Medal Q7 and after several close attempts this season equalled the course record of 62 🤩

It’s what he aims for every time he stands on the first tee ⛳️😅
His brilliant card had 7 birdies, 1 bogey and 10 pars 👏 👏

He is the 3rd to have shot 62 on this current course along with Norrie O and Colin. Ken Shot 62 on the old course.

I would not be surprised if it’s finally beaten in the very near future
Well done DJ 🤩🥳👏👍
