What a Super Saturday.

Lovely afternoon invitation to the official opening of .smile.turkey Swansea branch, on High Street Swansea.

It was great to meet up with .dr.sinan_tozoglu and the team, followed by a traditional Turkish luncheon at the (delicious).

This morning, we received the very sad news of Julie Owen’s passing, a loss deeply felt within the Beach Rugby family.

For those who may not know, Julie was the mother of Michael, captain of the Beach Rugby Wales team.

Throughout the summer months, Julie was much more than Michael’s mother; she became the team’s maternal figure during tournament weekends. For over thirteen years, alongside her husband Dai, she graciously hosted the squad at their family home.

Julie and Dai ensured the team was always tournament ready, greeting everyone with warmth, organising the legendary Friday night barbecues, preparing hearty pre-competition breakfasts, and making sure the kit was in perfect order.

Julie’s care extended beyond the pitch—she always made sure the players returned safely from celebrations, and, when needed, handed out the complimentary sick bucket.

These gestures reflect the warmth and generosity that defined Julie. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by the entire Beach Rugby Wales family.

We send our deepest condolences to Dai, Michael, and Sarah-Jayne.
