Weekend round up. And what a weekend!
๐ U7s
We arrived at Chippenham with just 4 players but that didn't stop us and all 4 enjoyed their first experiences of match play rugby against a large Chippenham squad.
A few knocks and scuffs but everyone got back up and dusted themselves off and got stuck in again.
Good tries by all 4 supermarine players and some great defensive work and plenty of smiles.
All 3 coaches were very pleased with what we were seeing..

What started as a misty morning under the crackling of the overhead power cables for our first match of the season at Chippenham, turned into a glorious sunshine day filled with strong positive forward running, loud tagging and very strong support play. What a day to play rugby! And boys and girls didn't we look good in our new kit ๐
After a quick warm up, we got together with Chippenham and we had enough players to field 2 sides, which worked nicely with their strong numbers. We played 2 matches per side and what a great start to the season. There was strong running play (although need to remind some players to keep moving forward) with tremendous support from teammates. Our tagging was generally strong, some of the games we been playing in training paying off. Could not have been prouder standing and watching the U8s who showed how strong Supermarine are.
Moving into this week, we just need to work on getting back into an onside position from the tag and spreading out as an attacking team. But these feel minor in the scheme of the first match of the season.
A thank you to the Chippenham U8s who were very polite and respectful and their coaches who were very engaging and encouraging.
I hope all the kids are as excited as we are (the coaches) about getting back onto the paddock this week.
๐ U9s โ First Contact Match!

Today our U9s travelled to Chippenham for their first contact match since moving up an age group. Three 10-minute matches gave Chippenham the opportunity to involve all their players and our team a chance to put four weeks of hard work into practice.
Supermarine started a little sleepy, conceding an early try, but a quick shuffle soon had everyone switched on and ready to go! ๐ช
Against a physical Chippenham side, our players stepped up, matching them player for player and putting in some fantastic tackles. Our taller players made strong drives to push the opposition back before releasing the ball to our smaller runnersโa brilliant team effort, with tries and tackles coming from every player today! ๐
The confidence, teamwork and determination on show reflected the hard graft everyone has put into training over the past four weeks.
By the final whistle, we had some very muddy U9s, plenty of smiling faces, proud coaches on the sidelines and even prouder parents! ๐
Thank you to Chippenham for hosting us, and well done to every Supermarine playerโa fantastic start to your contact rugby journey! ๐ ๐๐

A fantastic, high-energy shift from our U10s today! Playing on the AGP (Artificial Grass Pitch) was a brand new experience for the whole squad, and they adapted brilliantly. Facing a very strong, well-drilled Chippenham side with enough numbers to field two full teams, our players had to dig deep with almost no time for a rest. But their relentless work ethic and massive team spirit never wavered, making life incredibly difficult for the opposition from start to finish.
This game was by no means a walk in the park for the hosts. In front of a passionate home crowd, Supermarine truly rose to the challenge. We locked in some hard-hitting tackles, executed beautiful running lines, and celebrated a brilliant sprinkling of well-deserved team tries! Chippenham capitalised on a few lucky chances to take the lead, but our players made absolutely sure they had to work incredibly hard for every single point.
Today also marked a major milestone as the players successfully debuted the rucking, mauling, and scrummaging skills theyโve been working hard on in training. Seeing them confidently implement these new skills under real match pressure was a massive highlight for the coaches.
Overall, it was a superb, gutsy effort from the entire Supermarine squad. In fact, the only real disappointment of the whole day was the lack of post-match hotdogs to fuel them up after the final whistleโbut even that couldn't dampen their amazing spirits. Incredibly proud of the whole team! ๐ช๐

Today we visited a very welcoming and respectful Chippenham RFC.
Having small numbers in comparison but great numbers for us, we played three 15 minute matches against 3 different Chippenham teams, a tough ask for the first game of the season, but the team did us proud, not faltering when there legs were tired. We need to work on our tackling, learning when to keep the ball and when to use the space and pass. However, every one of the 12 players that represented us today should be very proud of themselves , hard work and determination was at the fore, we rucked hard and deserved every try we scored. The newer players today played very well and didnโt look out of place in the team! POM went to HH today for his great communication and hard work on the field! Lots to work on and lots to be proud of.

Our first match of the season was finally upon us and we faced a side with a huge numerical advantage which meant that they could change their entire team at halftime.
The boys played incredibly well and were fierce in their defence in a way we hadnโt properly seen for a long time. They made tackle after tackle and hit the rucks well beating players much larger than they were. We kept our shape and our discipline and scored ourselves in the first half to keep things relatively tight. As the game progressed, Chippenhamโs fresh legs really told and a few errors crept into our game so they ran out easy winners but Supermarine can hold their heads high with the showing they put out there.
The coaches particularly enjoyed that the side were complemented on their positional play by the opposition.
The players chose their player of the match, FB for his forward running and endless tackles, XC-S took the coaches player of the day for his improvement in all aspects of gameplay and sportsmanship throughout.
Proud coaches today, well done boys ๐๐ช๐ผ๐๐ผ

Devizes U13s - Away

A Day of Firsts
Today was very much a day of firsts for our Under 13s.
It was the first time the boys had their own changing room, the first time they had played the length of the pitch rather than across it, the first time they had played 13-a-side, the first time they had played two halves of rugby and, perhaps most noticeably, the first time they had experienced competitive scrums where pushing was allowed!
We arrived a few players short of a full side, but, thanks to Devizes having some extra players, they very kindly lent us two or three players, allowing us to play a full 13-a-side match.
The scrum was certainly a bit of a shock to the system. Being able to push, or, perhaps more accurately at times, being pushed backwards- was a completely new experience for the boys. However, they acquitted themselves brilliantly and will have learned a huge amount from their first taste of competitive scrummaging.
Considering we have had a slightly disjointed pre-season, there was plenty to be pleased about. Our attacking play showed some really encouraging signs, and the boys worked hard to adapt to the positional demands of playing on almost a full pitch with 13 players.
There is, of course, plenty for us to work on. Scrummaging will definitely be high on the agenda at training before our next fixture, along with our positioning and organisation around the rucks and mauls. Hopefully, with some consistent training sessions together, we can really start developing those areas.
But today was exactly what junior rugby should be about: learning, developing and playing the game in the right spirit.
A special thank you must go to the Devizes players who joined our side to make up the numbers. They were excellent, and it was great to see players from both teams encouraging and supporting one another throughout the game.
Most importantly, the match was played in a fantastic spirit from start to finish, with TREDS on full display.
The boys should be extremely proud of how they handled so many new experiences in one afternoon. Likewise, the support and encouragement from the parents was superb. Rounded it all off with a huge plate of sausage and chips for the boys ๐๐ซฃ๐ Not a single banana in sight! ๐๐
Plenty learned, plenty to work on and plenty to look forward to.
Well done, boys - onwards to the next one! ๐ ๐ช๐
