Last Sunday, it was the (re-scheduled) annual BKFA Instructors Course, hosted by Pete Hornby in Telford, Shropshire. It was a great day of training, focussing on the 8 'powers' and 6 coordinations, with expert guidance provided by the Lau Gar Guardians. So much knowledge and experience on hand, there's always something new learn or develop a deeper understanding of. Well worth the 400-mile round trip! Thank you! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

Last night, I had the pleasure of running a Kung Fu taster session for the Pioneer Explorers troop from St John's Scouts in Tunbridge Wells. Coinciding with the Chinese New Year, the Explorers gained an insight into this fascinating art that has been part of Chinese culture for centuries. We practiced the basics - punching, kicking... and horse stance! Working in small groups, the Young People got to try out their new skills on the pads. We explored the concept of Chin Na (seize and control), demonstrating how to escape from wrist grabs - a useful thing to know! It was a fun session and great to see all the Explorers so engaged... well done! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

A great day of training yesterday with GM Yau, Master Russell and the Lau Gar Guardians! The 6-hour workshop focussed on the weapons syllabus from 2nd degree through to 6th degree black sash. Learning, developing, refining techniques and applications from the Lau Gar weapons forms including spear, broadsword, kwan dao, butterfly knives, tiger fork, rat tail and eyebrow staffs. Huge thanks to Pete Hornby and the Lau Gar Guardians for organising such an awesome event! πŸ‘Š

What a milestone! My 15-year old son, Luke, achieved his white sash in Lau Gar Kung Fu... congratulations Luke! πŸ₯³He started training back in early 2023 and has been working hard towards this as part of his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award (Physical component). Well done, son! Looking forward to passing on the knowledge and wisdom I've been fortunate enough to receive over the decades. The journey has only just begun... here's to the next generation πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ’₯

Last week we were invited by 12th St John’s Scout Group to run a Kung Fu taster session for their Explorers in Tunbridge Wells. We started with a short presentation on the origins of kung fu and a brief history of Lau Gar. Following a short warm up and stretch, we practiced the basics: punches, kicks and stances. The session was interspersed with demonstrations, including empty hand and weapons forms, as well as some board breaking! All the Explorers did amazing and worked really hard! I hope they had as much fun as we did! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»
