We’re seeing this more and more across the Air Arms family, particularly the HFT500 — far too much barrel cleaning solution being used.

It seems to surprise quite a few people just how little cleaning fluid is actually needed.

Using too much can leave excess solution sitting within the barrel or transfer port area, which can then be carried through between shots and cause inconsistent accuracy.

We’re also seeing excess fluid affect the O-ring between the two mating faces, in some cases dislodging or blowing the seal out. Once that happens, velocity can drop and consistency goes with it.

With barrel cleaning, more definitely isn’t better. Use the minimum amount required and make sure the barrel is properly cleared afterwards.

A small amount goes a very long way.

We put that catastrophic bottle to good use. Turns out it was better suited to holding pens than 250 bar.

This could have been catastrophic if it had held pressure for any length of time. Thankfully, it failed immediately.

Someone had drilled directly into this carbon-fibre air cylinder to fit a fill valve. These cylinders are only around 4–5mm thick and are **never designed to be drilled or modified like this**.

Guys, never assume you’re smarter than the manufacturers when you’re dealing with high-pressure air.

The good news is this one should live again — a new bottle and a Dr Bob’s fill valve should bring it back to life.

Something a little different on the range this week.

This French-built Unique .22 LR match setup has come in with us on a commission sale, so we have been putting it through its paces before listing it for its owner.

The verdict: an absolute tack driver.

With its single-shot target action, heavy stainless barrel and fully adjustable aluminium match stock, it feels exceptionally stable from the bench and looks ideally suited to .22 LR benchrest and precision target.

A rare and seriously capable piece of French engineering.

Project Delta is looking right at home in green.

Topped off with the Arken EPL-4 6–24x50 FFP. This is the first FFP scope I’ve genuinely been happy using at minimum magnification; the reticle remains usable, even in dark woodland.
