I said to the intermediates level students today while practicing their spin kicks.
That we are taking it to the next level and if you are not falling down then you didn't spin fast enough.

Now THIS is dedication! 🇪🇬🥋

One of our parents sent me this brilliant video from their family holiday in Egypt…

While standing in front of the Great Pyramids, he decided it was the perfect opportunity to get some pattern practice in! 😂

He’s got his sights set on his next belt test in a few months, and apparently even a trip to Egypt isn’t getting in the way of his preparation.

This is something we talk about a lot at Blue Wave — improvement doesn’t always come from doing loads. Sometimes it’s just taking those little opportunities to practise, improve and keep moving towards your goal.

And I think this might officially win the award for the best Blue Wave training location so far! 🌍

Great Pyramids today… next belt soon! 👊🥋

Keep up the brilliant work!

Could my child do Taekwondo? 🥋

It’s a question we get asked in lots of different ways.

“My child is autistic…”
“My son is hyperactive…”
“My child is non-verbal…”
“My child has additional needs…”

And we want you to tell us. The more we understand about your child, the better we can understand how we may be able to support them.

But we also don’t want to make assumptions about what someone can do based simply on a diagnosis or difficulty.

One of our values at Blue Wave is:

💙 Everyone is on their own journey.

That journey might require more support, more time or a different approach — and our classes won't necessarily be suitable for everyone.

That’s exactly why we offer trials.

It gives us the chance to meet your child, understand them and, where appropriate, give them the opportunity to have a go.

Because sometimes they might just surprise you.

📩 If you’ve wondered whether Taekwondo could be suitable for your child, send us a message and tell us a little about them.

A question for parents… do we praise the RESULT too much? 🤔

Your child comes home with 10/10 on a test:

“That’s amazing! Well done!”

They score the winning goal:

“Brilliant!”

They win a medal:

“I’m so proud of you!”

Of course we should celebrate those moments.

But what about the test they studied really hard for… and got 5/10?

The match where they tried their absolute hardest… but their team lost?

Or the new skill they attempted 20 times… and still couldn’t quite do?

Do those moments actually deserve MORE praise?

It’s something I think about a lot when teaching.

I’m far more interested in a child who keeps trying when they’re struggling than everything coming easily to them.

So, parents — what do you think?

Should we praise achievement more, effort more, or do children need both?

I’d genuinely love to hear people's thoughts below. 👇

I tell kids they’re AWESOME… even when they get it wrong. 💙

Not because I’m pretending the answer was right or the technique was perfect.

I’m praising something much more important:

They had a go.

We can correct a kick.
We can improve a pattern.
We can teach them the right answer.

But first, I want children to feel safe enough to try, make mistakes and try again.

Because confidence isn’t about getting everything right.

It’s being able to say:

“I might get this wrong… but I’m going to have a go anyway.”

That’s something we work hard to develop at Blue Wave Taekwondo. 🥋

You don’t build confident kids by expecting perfection. You make it safe to try.
