WARNING LONG POST!
Dragstalgia, wow what an incredible weekend!
Karen and i left home on thursday morning and spent 4hrs cooking in the van arriving just after 2, got our pit space and just struggled in the intense heat!
Al and the lads from team raptor came over and helped unload the car and we spent a very enjoyable evening with them all!
Friday morning came and as the crew werent gonna be there till later i managed to get karen in the car so i could fire it up, she was very nervous but did greatπ
The rest of the day was spent relaxing and walking around the site and then our first run was around 5.10, i did a half track pass as i was doing my observed runs in order to get my msuk licence signed so that went ok!
Bbq, drinks and then gave one of our crew his present!
Since the nostalgias one of the crew had been going on about us having capes as part of our crew wear( not a chance but he didnt relent )
So i bought him his own cape/facemask and had it printed on the back, Captain Digit was born!π
We spent the rest of the weekend just giggling!!
On saturday the first run was my observed full run so a 9.4 sorted that and the second run was a 10.5 as i launched in 2nd!!
Our third run was cancelled so we went to watch the cracklefest and then steve heaven do the fire burnout!
After we went down to the startline as karen was having some pics done with the burnout babes, she had been to the pamper pod to have her hair done 50s style and looked great!
More laughs and food followed with the crew!
Sunday came and towed down for the first run with captain digit on the wheelie bar, i nearly wet myself with laughter at peoples reactions to him!π The car cut out pulling round onto the track, later found to be an electrical fault which was quickly put right.
Second run went well( another 9.4) until i lifted! Didnt feel the motor blow , first i knew of it was my visor being completely covered with oil, couldnt see a thing so grabbed the brake handle and just hung on trying/guessing to keep the car straight ,the car then began to spin round and i was waiting for an impact but it came to rest in the middle of the track!
Im pretty sure the engine was still running as when i released the brake it jumped forward so i hit the ign switch!
I may be imagining this as it all happened quickly but the engine certainly turns over by hand even with no1 rod hanging out the block so who knows!π
The santa pod crew/emergency services were with me very quickly and were amazing!
As for the car, it needs a good clean has a mist of oil on it , needs a new pair of rear tires as it took a huge chunk out the rear left and damaged the front left wheel bearing!
Probably need a complete new shortblock but thats racing!
To cap a great weekend(apart from the damage) Captain Digit won the wildbunch showmanship award!πππ
Thanks to everyone that stopped by to check on me ( and the pisstakingπ)
Much appreciated!
Lastly to karen, phil, rich, mike ,gary , tony and karen , sorry i scared you but thanks for everything you do for me and just for another brilliant weekend!
Cheers guys
We will be back!π
