Lovely warm evening watching the children ride round the canter track before all the horses go back out.
Summer routine means horses all out at night and in during the day for feeds, supplements and medication to be given as well as visual check overs and some time off the grass out the sun to rest 🌞

For the last 12 months I have toyed with the idea of selling my youngster Madi. Worrying I've not got enough experience, I've not got the strength to ride such a big horse and that I'm simply just not good enough. Forgetting that I backed her, rode her away and that I've been producing horses over 20 years 🙈
Unfortunately I had a horrible fall when madi tripped not long after we arrived at heathfield, and I lost some confidence in myself. So I sent her away for 3 weeks schooling 😒 this was a huge mistake! Without going into too much detail, she came back a mess. It took me 6 months just to be able to get on her without her running backwards or freaking out 😔 and ridden wise she was just plain dangerous! No control, pulling so hard at any bit she would rip her mouth to pieces and napping all the time.
Well the last 3 weeks we have finally got my lovely horse back! It's been 12 months of hard slog, sweat and tears (oh many many tears and regrets of why did I send her away), and some serious self doubt but I've done it! I have had to go right back to basics with her. But with some encouragement from people on the yard (I have some amazing liveries)! I've got no more blind bolting, we are schooling calmly and most importantly I have a happy trusting horse again.
Moral of the story, don't give up on those special horses! Sometimes they just need a bit of time and reassurance 💚

The soul destroying task of ragwort and thistle pulling!
It's a thankless job. A job I absolutely detest, however it is most definitely a job that needs doing.
At heathfield stables and stud, we take sole responsibility for this as I like to make sure it's done properly.
Also I remember once upon a time being a livery, and I really struggled with having a full time job, children/family and my horses to get my fields picked. Which meant the little free time I did have to ride, I ended up spending pulling up weeds out of my fields.
So I take the hassle away, and work like a magic fairy when no one sees pulling it all up and clearing fields so my horses and yours are all safe to graze away 💚

While my own youngster has been off with a major injury, Charles has been my go to horse for some fun! Here he is popping the logs round the track 😳 and also leading our hacks down mud lane for a lovely canter! 🩵
