♻️ CANS FOR CRICKET — THAT’S A WRAP ♻️

Our Young Leaders set out to do something simple this season — collect, crush and recycle as many aluminium cans as possible — while raising a little money for the club and getting our community thinking about what happens to those cans once they’re empty.

The final haul has now gone to Total Metal Recycling, where the cans will be recycled♻️

♻️: 95kg of cans recycled in total
🟰: 6’700 cans, or thereabouts, crushed and diverted from landfill
📊: averaging around 325 cans a week
🧪: >4’000 pints
📏: about 850 meters, and if laid end-to-end enough to stretch from our pavilion to Claire Seager’s new Reformer studio, via The Cricketers in the Green AND back again taking a detour around Lord Pirbright’s Hall 🚶🏻

We’d like to thank our club members who selflessly drank their way to this number, to the generosity of the local community for dropping extra cans in and to Lord Pirbright’s Hall for their support. Finally, to the random act of kindness from a local resident who donated £20.00 just because he was so impressed with what we were doing.

With the nights fast drawing in, the cricket season is, sadly, officially over 😢

But what a cracking season it was, and no less so for our incredible youth section, who basked in the glorious sunshine in around 150 fixtures played. Ably watched over by our invaluable team of volunteer coaches and team managers, supported by this year’s cohort of Young Leaders.

There were wins, there were losses and there may have even been a tied game thrown in for good measure. But, there many were laughs, there were friendships, there was precious time spent out in the open, away from technology and that’s what it is all about.

And this was all helped by the generous support of Seymours Knaphill, our official youth shirt sponsor. Thank you on behalf of all who have worn the Blue & Yellow 💙💛

Saturday:

The 1stXI remain in the danger zone, but talk about taking it to the wire…

One mighty win 👊 and, with other results going our way, the dream is STILL alive. We take our Division 3 survival fight to the final game of the season.

Sunday:

Our Phoenixes finished their Surrey Division 2 softball league season, sadly falling (again) to a very strong

That result confirmed a runners-up finish: another incredible season for the Phoenixes🥈

Inclusive. Fun. Competitive cricket. And an opportunity for so many players to get out there, play, improve and enjoy the game. They go again next year, building upon the amazing foundations laid over the past few seasons.

After much number-crunching over a few [too many] pints of Saaz Pilsner (coincidentally available on draught in the pavilion on home match days), we’ve concluded there’s still hope.

Our survival would be right up there alongside other such monumental sporting shocks:

⚽️ Leicester City winning the Premier League 🏆
🥊 Buster Douglas defeating Mike Tyson (who was 37-0 at the time)
⛳️ Team Europe beating USA in ‘The Miracle of Medinah’
⚽ whilst we’re on miracles, Tottenham staying up in 2025/26 (and 2024/25)

But whilst there’s hope, we fight.

Next up, it’s a trip to And with two games remaining, there’s still everything to play for.

Then on Sunday, the Phoenixes head over to for their final league outing of the season.

Regardless of result, it’s been another fantastic season for our Women’s section, with plenty of promise for what’s to come in 2027 - watch this space 💙💛

And so off the back of a draw and two wins, our very own attempt at The Great Escape appears to be on!
 
Having climbed off the bottom, we currently sit a meagre 0.24 points from safety and 0.47 points from 7th place.
With only 3 games remaining, can we make it the 111 yards through Harry and out into the woods……………..
Standing in our way this weekend are high-flying league leaders 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒙 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒃 , whose fortunes sit at the opposite end of the table - a win going some decent way to seeing them crowned as Div3 champions.
 
It’s shaping up to be a great game, so we would love to see you down on The Green showing your support.
We have some new arrivals to help whet the thirst too: SAAZ Pilsner (I’m told rather splendid) and $UMO APA (apparently tropical & hazy)

♻️Cans for Cricket: Update♻️

Heading into the final weeks of the season and this years cohort of Young Leaders are still absolutely crushing it:

♻️ 61kg (that’s about 4’400 cans) diverted from landfill

📏 > 500 meters of cans, stood end-to-end - enough to go around our boundary almost one-a-half-times

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, by drinking or bringing cans along to our ‘amnesty’. We are extremely grateful.

As the accumulator shows, we’re just about on track to reach the bottom of the handle, but still have some way to go. We still need your help, so please keep drinking and donating.
