Recent weeks have seen a steady influx of rolling stock at Chirk. This has happened thanks to the incredible generosity of our members, which has resulted in a number of items of rolling stock now being on loan to the Trust.
First to arrive, were two ex-Monkton Farleigh drop-side wagons which have been re-gauged and extensively restored for use on the Tramway. Secondly a 2ft bogie coach has arrived and is now located at the north-end of the platform on a length of mixed gauge rail. This will initially be used as a temporary booking office, cafe and waiting room, whilst the reconstruction of the station continues. Phil and Adam have continued the work of refitting RNAD couplers to Van No.5 so that it will be compatible with our other ex-RNAD vehicles.
Today part of the buffer-beam fitted when the van was converted to look more like an original GVT van, was cut away to allow the test fitting of the refurbished couplers. Further restoration work will be carried out over to the frame over the next few weeks, so that the couplers can be reinstalled.

Today we travelled up the M6 motorway to C.J.S Heritage engineering Ltd in Wigan to inspect the Hunslet locomotive which was recently purchased from the Blatchford Light Railway by one of our board members.
The locomotive appears to be in good overall condition, it has benefited from being quite a recent build, and from having being stored under cover. A plan of work to both re-gauge, and restore the locomotive to full working order has been agreed; and all being well, work is scheduled to start next week.

Yesterday in warm spring sunshine we continued working on the Tramway. We have moved most of our new rail down to our PW storage area and stacked it neatly for future use along the 'Chirk Straight'. This allowed us to add one further track panel in the 'mainline', and we also added fishplates to the three track panels that will form the line into the rolling stock building.
Our next track related project will be to re-gauge and install our RH set of points, which we will do as soon as funds allow.
