A sincere thank you to everyone involved in yesterday’s MSc Sport and Exercise Science Conference. The theme of resilience gave us a strong thread to pull on across both the Performance and Clinical pathways, and the contributions from speakers, staff, and students made for a genuinely worthwhile day.
A particular thanks to our guest speakers: Dr Chelsea Batty, Dr Julian Ayres, Tom King and Ben Agius whose applied insight and willingness to share real-world experience added real weight to the discussions.
Our thanks also go to our MSc students and academic staff for their engagement throughout the day, and for the part they played in making it a success!

Last weekend, our Sport & Exercise Science team took to the platform at the ABPU British Championships at the Arnold Sports Festival in Birmingham 🏋️♂️
We had two MSc Sport Science students Steven and Conner along with our Principal Lead in Sport & Exercise Science, Dr Chelsea on the platform.
🥇 Dr Chelsea Batty – 1st place in Bench Press with an incredible 130 kg
🥇 Steven Forshaw – Gold medal & World Record Deadlift (290 kg)
🥈 Conner Edwards – Silver medal with a huge 245 kg Deadlift.
We're all about putting knowledge into practice and pushing athletes to perform at their best.
Brilliant effort all round 👏
This weekend, it’s go time. 💥
Dr Chelsea Batty Principal Lead for Sport is stepping back onto the platform to defend her British Championship title at the British Powerlifting Championship Finals at the Arnold Sports Festival in Birmingham.
Prep hasn’t been perfect… but maybe that’s the point.
Through the highs of big lifts and the challenges of injury, Chelsea’s journey into this competition has been about more than numbers. It’s been about listening to her body, adapting, and trusting the process. Recovery has been just as important as training knowing when to push and when to pause.
“Progress isn’t always linear but consistency always wins.”
So the question is:
Can she defend her title?
And… could we see her break her own world record?
No matter the outcome, one thing is certain she’s showing up strong, resilient, and ready.
Let’s go. 🔥
