We have our first senior Light Blues since forever! Massive well done to Top Light Blue Mark and runner-up GiGi passing their grading and promoted to the Senior grades. Joey and Jonny (unfortunately unavailable tonight) braved their first grading and became Yellow 2 and Yellow 1. Diane from University of York Jiu Jitsu Club smashed hers and upgraded to Green too!
Thank you the TJJF Yorkshire Region community for helping us train.
Thank you to the grading panel for the reasonable adjustments so we older folks can also shine.
Thank you all the families for supporting the jitsuka achieving their goals.
Grading with young people a third to half our age is less scary now. 🙂↕️

This would not have happened without the support from all our members, parents and significant others of our jitsuka. Well done everyone!
We are honoured.
Yorkshire Region Club Of The Year 2026
*York Jiu Jitsu Club*
York Jiu Jitsu club has grown to be one of the strongest town clubs in the Foundation. A complete turnaround from before the pandemic.
35+ people on the mat every session, survived venue moves and now in a fantastic new dojo, they have an excellent committee, social channels, and website, they have new members almost every session, their first senior blues in many years, a promotion for their instructor, high attendance at regional events, their first ever nationals shield, and more.
The template for a strong town club.

Thank you everyone for a fantastic session tonight. We've had a record number of attendance! Everyone including the newcomers worked hard and hope they all enjoyed the session.
We haven't got any medals for a few years. Then all of a sudden we've had a surge of medals and in the last year we have won not just one but TWO Foundation shields. We can't do this without all your support. It is humbling to look at how you guys have grown, especially the juniors, in technique, discipline, maturity, friendships as a club committee and a parent.
Let's see what the future is going to bring us!
If you want to join us this happy gang, you can start your Jitsu journey any Friday 7-9pm (7-8:30pm for young juniors) at The Mount School, Dalton Terrace, YO24 4DD.. Anyone from the age of 4 is welcomed. Complete beginners, long lost friends, families and students can all join in at any session. First session is FREE with no obligation.

Just in case you haven't known Sensei Tom's dedication and hardwork... 😉 Thank you all for the recognition!
A huge thank you from everyone in the Yorkshire Region, and the foundation to Sensei Tom Dugmore. Awarded the grade of Shodan at the recent nationals.
Tom is incredibly enthusiastic and passionate about Jiu Jitsu. Set's the standard of how everyone should put the work in. He won TJJF Instructor of the Year 2025, and now has been awarded Shodan for his services.
Tom is the only instructor in York and has taught two clubs by himself for several years. Alongside teaching multiple times every week he brings the clubs to all regional and national events.
The York Uni is one of the longest running clubs in TJJF, and always has a presence at regional events, nationals, and in gradings. York Town is one of TJJF's big success stories since the pandemic. Tom has taught most of the club from scratch and has raised a dying club to a now thriving one. 30+ train every session, and the club recently won it's first ever national shield.
Across both clubs Tom teaching almost 50 students every week from age 4 - 50+. Get yourselves to York to find out more!
Tom is a role model of how not to be discouraged after set backs and come back fighting stronger and fully deserves his new grade.
From some of Tom’s students:
“He has helped me with discipline and understanding Ju-jitsu beyond what I initially knew”
“He is such an amazing teacher with 2 clubs in his control, he is very helpful and motivating”
“Best voice of jiu jiutsu!”
“He tries to help when we struggle with techniques and uses innovative ways to help us understand how to do the techniques better.”
“Amazing sensei , everyone is friendly and its all round a blast.”
“It’s fun and motivating and helps us progress with fun partners.”
