Arklow United's U11 Blue competed in their first SFAI national cup match yesterday morning.

United welcomed Kilcullen AFC Red from Kildare for a lunchtime kickoff in the glorious October sunshine.

United settled the quickest and took full advantage with Elliot Mackey getting the opening goal after good team play and United made their pressure count with Elliot getting his second direct from a corner.

Kilcullen never gave up and got themselves back into the match to make it 2-1 and they ensured that a cracking cup match continued by completing their comeback late into normal time, 2-2 and on to extra time.

The late equaliser sparked United back into life and the team came out strong in extra time with Izzy Kilroy getting a quick fire hat-trick to settle the tie. Elliott also completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards, with Konrad Kobylinska completing the scoring, just before the end, to make it 7-2 to United (AET)

A strong team performance for the first National Cup outing.

United would like to thank Kilcullen AFC Red for a great game and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

United’s U12 Girls made it two wins from two in the Wicklow League after a good win over Ashford Rovers.

Another fantastic performance from United yesterday with six different scorers on the sheet! 👏⚽

The girls’ hard work on the training pitch was evident for all to see. Teamwork was the order of the day, with the girls moving the ball brilliantly around the pitch.

Defensively, United were equally impressive, showing great determination, organisation and teamwork to keep things tight at the back.

A brilliant all-round team performance and a testament to the effort the girls are putting in week after week!

⚽ Six different scorers: Kayla Kennedy, Melita
Zilvinas, Izzy Kilroy, Aria Keogh Hughes, Michaela Kinsella and Evie White!💥

Well done, girls — keep up the fantastic work! 🖤💚 Training continues every Monday and Wednesday from 6.30-7.30 .

U15 National Cup Round 2 Caragh Celtic 3 Arklow United 3 (AET) United won 4-3 on penalties.

A rollercoaster day for United in Kildare this afternoon. United started well and were 2-0 up within 20 minutes with two fine strikes from David Dranko and Stephen Merry but Caragh Celtic worked their way back into the game and made it 2-1 just before the break with a good finish from their striker after an excellent through ball.

Half time, 2-1 to United. The lads hadn’t had a game for a month and the lack of games showed when Celtic struck twice in 5 minutes just after half time to lead 3-2. Keeper Mason Forde made two good saves from the initial shots but the rebounds were swept home.

United had to dig deep and gradually wore the home team down with some brilliant passing moves. United went close on several occasions but finally got the equaliser when wing back Rhys Kennedy was fouled in the box and up stepped Jason McAllion to convert the spot kick.

3-3 and on to extra time. United were on top for the last twenty but the home side’s defence held firm. United missed first in the penalty shoot out but Mason pulled off a big save and when Celtic struck their last penalty wide, United were into the next round. Stephen, Jason, Carter Kinsella and Ryan Harte were successful from the spot.

Thanks to Geoff and all at Caragh Celtic for the treats for the boys after the game and best of luck for the season.

MOTM - Couldn’t separate Ryan Harte and Cillian McBride. Cillian’s link up play and non stop work rate was excellent as was Ryan’s output from the left flank⚽️💚🖤

Busy weekend at Arklow Credit Union Park this weekend. Best of luck to all the teams⚽️💚🖤

Arklow United B 4-2 Dearg Celtic

United welcomed Dearg Celtic to Arklow Credit Union Park today for a 4pm kickoff. Dearg’s pitch isn’t quite ready so United accommodated a reverse fixture for the season’s opening weekend and the lads were eager to get off to a good start. That's exactly what happened when after just 2 minutes, United were ahead. Mossy O’Reilly picked up a pass near the half way line and beat 2 defenders, whipped in a delicious cross and striker Shane Roche took a touch to settle it then smashed it home. Both teams had half chances up until half time but both defences were on top in the first half. United’s management encouraged the lads at half time to push on and just after the break, Shane was unlucky not to add to his tally when his header, from a Mossy cross, hit the bottom of the post. But just five minutes later, it was 2-0 to United and no prizes for guessing the scorer. A delightful through ball from Tom Connors played Shane through 1 on 1 with the keeper and he calmly stroked it by him to put United in control. Just before the hour mark, Dearg pulled one back when their striker scored from a smart touch and finish and on 70 minutes, they equalised via a freekick. The lads knew they had to dig deep and with 15 minutes left on the clock, Shane completed his hat-trick when his free kick squirmed in at the near post. United sealed the three points with 5 minutes to go. A quick corner was taken and James McBride squared a great ball across goal for centre back Shane Connolly to tap it home and relax the nerves in the final moments of the game.

Thanks to Dearg Celtic for the game and it’s great to see them back in the league. United wish you well for the season ahead and thanks also to referee Carl Doyle.

Man of the match: Shane Roche, Hat-trick hero ⚽️⚽️⚽️
