A tribute to Georgina Forristal, RIP

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Georgina Forristal (nee Matthews).
Georgina took up Pitch and Putt when Ierne course opened in the 1960s. After considerable success,
she gave up the sport for a few years before resuming as a member of Shandon around 1980.

In 1968, Georgina won the Leinster Strokeplay championship at Royal Meath, just ahead of runner-up
and later to be clubmate, Teresa McGuigan (Shandon).
The same year, she contested the National Matchplay final at Hillview and was narrowly defeated by
Nancy Tuohy (Catholic Institute).
In 1969 and in 1971, Georgina reached the National Matchplay semi-finals at Ierne and Arden (later to be
Tullamore) respectively, beaten by the eventual champion on both occasions.
Georgina regularly played on Dublin Inter-County teams alongside the likes of May Vaughan, Ita Martin,
Teresa McGuigan, Phil Martin, Ann Maloney and Maree O’Toole.

She was a member of the Dublin side that won the inaugural Inter-County championship at McDonagh in
1970 and also played on the 1972 team that finished as runners-up to the home county at Royal Meath.
Sunday 26th June 1988 was Georgina’s greatest day on a Pitch and Putt course. An impressive
aggregate of 97 gave her victory in the National Ladies Strokeplay championship at Hillview by a single
stroke from Margaret Hogan (Tullamore).
She also excelled at the sports of Snooker and Table Tennis.
May Georgina Rest in Peace.
