Lusk Athletic Club

🔹𝐃𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟕🔹

3 was the magic number on Wednesday night at the graded meeting 7 in Lucan, with 3 Lusk AC athletes finishing 3rd.
James Barry was up first, in shot and was third in the senior shot competition with a best throw of 7.64m.
Next in the 800m A race, Conor McGuirk was third over the line in 1:53.32, followed soon after by Eoin McGuirk in the 800m C race, where Eoin led out and gave his all finishing in 2:04.86.
The last race of the evening saw Conor McGrath racing well in the 800m D race with a time of 2:24.59.
Well done all. The 8th and final graded meeting takes place on Wednesday 29th July at Morton Stadium.

🔹 𝗟𝘂𝘀𝗸 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 – 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The third running of the 𝗟𝘂𝘀𝗸 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 took place today at the Hub, with a great day of competition and some impressive performances.

The action began with the juvenile shot put competition, where nine young throwers competed strongly. The top distance of 10.39m was shared by Adam Dunne of Brow Rangers AC and Henry Gavriscuks of Skerries AC.

Next up was the Weight for Distance, with Niall Allen of Clonliffe Harriers producing the furthest throw of the day at 8.78m, followed by former National Senior Champion Seamus Fitzpatrick of Portlaoise with 7.57m. Vivian Okafor of Clonliffe Harriers led the women’s competition with a throw of 6.49m.

The men’s shot put followed before a short lunch break and the main event of the day — Weight for Height. Each competitor had three attempts to clear the bar at each height, similar to the high jump.

Daisy Lara Leonard of host club Lusk AC equalled her PB of 3.60m to take the Junior Girl’s title, while Adam Dunne of Brow Rangers AC won the Junior Men’s title with a clearance of 4.00m.

The performance of the day came from Niall Allen, who threw the O50 35lb (15.8kg) weight over an incredible 5.10m, setting a new Masters National Record!

A fantastic day of heavy throws in Lusk. Thanks to Colm Donoghue for organising the event with help from Seamus Flynn officiating.

🔹𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐩 𝐰.𝐞. 𝟏𝟐/𝟎𝟕/𝟐𝟔🔹

There were 3 races involving Lusk athletes on Sunday along with the usual parkrun events on Saturday.

𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧
Well done to Paul Kelly and Liz O'Reilly who took on the Termonfeckin Half this morning. Paul came home in 1:39.26 and Liz was 3rd in the F40 category in 1:45.42.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝟏𝟎𝐤
The eagerly awaited first element of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon race series took place in Swords this morning. A slightly different route to previous years with the race heading straight out on Balheary Lane and being run almost exclusively on country lanes. Another warm morning but with a fairly strong breeze. There were around 30 Lusk athletes in race action and a similar number of volunteer marshal duty. Many thanks to all that helped out as well as provided some much appreciated shouts of support to those that ran.

First across the line for the club was Donnacha Maguire in 38:02 with Luke Carter (38:56) and Cathal Henry (39:23) also getting comfortably under 40 minutes. Niamh Coughlan (42:37) was our first female home with Michelle McManus (49:43) next over the line.

𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐫 𝟓𝐤
William Walsh ran the Nora Arthur 5k in St Anne's Park. Will finished in 28:46.

𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐫𝐮𝐧
There were 30 club members in parkrun action across 7 events on Saturday.

Erica Casey sent in a few words about her visit to a parkrun in Japan.
Myself and Steven ran in the Kanazawa Saigawa Ryokuchi Park 犀川緑地公園 Parkrun in Japan. It was lovely course along the Sai river and nearby park with many cheerful volunteers, one was even playing the flute! It was a warm one, 31 degrees Celsius at 8am in the morning.

Closer to home, Aidan Langley (22:15) was 9th at River Valley and Oliver Bush (22:58) at Ardgillan. Liz and Dara O'Reilly both achieved a PB at Fairview as did Susan and Jake Fanning at Donabate.

Elsewhere Louise Keane travelled to Hasenheide in Berlin and there were also visits to Ballymount and Malahide.

A busy 3 days of track and field for our athletes with events at Morton Stadium, Tullamore and then on our home turf.

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬
On Friday Evening, Robyn Carey took part in the Morton Games Junior Mile. Robyn was running up a distance and had a great race finishing in 6th place in a time of 5.07.49.

NATIONAL SILVER MEDALLIST!

What a thrilling U19 1500m National Final for Conor McGuirk in Tullamore.
Running in the first of two heats, Conor produced a superb performance to win his heat in 3:57.57, setting a new Championship Record in the process! The record stood for all of five minutes before being narrowly beaten in the second heat by just 0.03 seconds!
Conor’s fantastic run secured him a very impressive National Silver Medal — a wonderful way to finish his juvenile athletics career. Huge congratulations.

Eoin McGuirk was 8th in the U17 1500m in a time of 4.20.32 Well done Eoin.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬 - 𝐋𝐮𝐬𝐤
Congratulations to Colm O'Donoghue on his organisation of the Heavy throws event today. Huge effort by Colm over the last few days ensured it was a great day for all competitors. Well done also to Colm and Seamus for officiating today.
