🇲🇹⛵ From Birżebbuġa to Gdynia! ⛵🇵🇱

We are extremely proud of our Birżebbuġa Sailing Club sailors who represented Malta at the 2026 Optimist European Championships in Gdynia, Poland, competing among 292 young sailors from 42 countries.

👏 Jeremy Decelis – 42nd overall, Gold Fleet
👏 Thomas Giusti – 59th overall and 2nd in the Silver Fleet
👏 Ella Grech – 101st overall, Silver Fleet

Reaching this level requires commitment, determination and countless hours on the water. Jeremy, Thomas and Ella represented their country and club with great pride, and we look forward to seeing where their sailing journey takes them next.

Congratulations also to the entire Maltese team on placing 14th out of 32 European nations.

Team Malta is Heading to Poland.

A group of 7 athletes is making their way to Gdynia today to represent Malta at the Optimist European Championship. Led by coach Maurizio Bencic and accompanied by team leader Jake Mallia, the team will race between the 24th and 31st July 2026.

The Malta Sailing Federation wishes these young athletes fair winds - bring it home kiddos!

🌍⛵ The 2026 Optimist World Championship in Morocco has come to an end, and what a championship it has been for Team Malta! 🇲🇹

Competing against 300 of the world’s best young sailors, our team showed incredible determination, resilience, and talent on the international stage.

🥉 A huge congratulations to Andrey Zhakov, who delivered a sensational performance to finish 3rd Overall in the World! An outstanding achievement and a proud moment for Maltese sailing.

🇲🇹 Team Malta also secured an impressive 7th Overall Nation Ranking, proving that our sailors can compete with the very best in the world.
