🚨 New grade tags at Crashpad! 🚨
We’re making a small update to our grading system.
To make the circuits clearer, more beginner-friendly, and better aligned with Griptonite, we’re adding a new Purple tag at the lower end of the grade range and slightly shifting the other colours around.
The goal is simple:
make it easier for everyone to understand where they are, find the right climbs, and track progress more accurately.
What’s changing?
Purple will now sit at the easiest end of the circuit, giving new climbers a clearer starting point. Some existing colours will shift slightly so that the grades line up better with the way Griptonite categorises climbs.
This means you may notice that a colour you’re used to climbing now feels a little different. That’s intentional. The system is being adjusted to give a smoother progression from first climbs through to harder projects.
What stays the same?
The grades are still a guide, not a rule. Some climbs will suit you more than others depending on style, height, strength, flexibility, coordination, and technique.
So don’t stress too much about the colour. Use it as a compass, not a cage.
Try the new circuits, log your climbs on Griptonite, and let us know how they feel.
New tags. Cleaner progression. Better climbing.

Six months ago, we put down the mats, chalked up, and opened our doors for the very first time. 🧗
Since then, you’ve climbed hard, chased down projects, and crushed grades you weren’t sure you could touch. We’ve watched people go from first-ever try to sending their first high level climb — and cheer just as loud for the person next to them. 💪
But more than the climbing? It’s the community. The beta swaps, the mid-route friendships, the « one more go » energy, and the fact that this place is genuinely *fun* to be in. That’s what we’re proudest of. 💛
And we’re just getting started — we’ve got some seriously exciting stuff lined up for the second half of the year. Stay tuned. 👀
To everyone who’s climbed, fallen, laughed, and kept coming back: thank you. Crashpad is you. 🎉

Have you checked out the Crashpad Spraywall?
The name “Spraywall” comes because it looks like the holds have been sprayed all over the place. However, the placement is absolutely not random and a lot of work goes into making the spraywall just the right amount of difficulty.
You can make your own routes as you go, or you can use BoulderBook to check out what routes have been put up by the community!
Learn more about how to use the spraywall or BoulderBook in the post.
