Every seminar reminds me of one simple truthโฆ there is always another level.
Last weekend I had the privilege of training under Maestro Santo Torre, and what an incredible experience it was.
For hours we broke down every movement, every transition, every stance and every technique. Nothing was rushed. Every detail had a purpose, every correction made the kata stronger, cleaner and more efficient.
We drilled the same movements over and over again, refining the smallest details that often make the biggest difference. It's a reminder that mastery isn't built through shortcuts. It's built through patience, repetition and a willingness to be corrected.
Training alongside athletes and instructors who all share the same passion for improving creates an atmosphere that's difficult to describe. Everyone pushes each other to be better, and you leave inspired to keep raising your own standards.
I walked away with a notebook full of ideas, a body that's definitely feeling the weekend, and a renewed appreciation for just how deep karate really is. No matter how many years you've trained, there's always something new to learn.
A huge thank you to Maestro Santo Torre for sharing his knowledge, experience and passion so generously. Every correction, every explanation and every lesson is something I'll continue to work on not only for my own development as an athlete, but also to pass on to my students at Rising Phoenix Martial Arts Academy.
I'd also like to extend my sincere thanks to the Malta Karate Federation for organising such a high quality seminar and for continually providing opportunities for karateka in Malta to learn from world class instructors. Events like these are invaluable for the growth of our athletes, coaches and the sport as a whole.
Growth never stops.
Now it's time to take everything I've learned, step back onto the tatami, and continue polishing every detail. Because excellence is never just a destination, it's a journey.

๐ฅ MY FIRST KUMITE LESSON!! ๐งก๐ค๐ฅ
Someone was very excited... just look at that little smile๐ฅน
Jake took part in his very first kumite lesson, little man suited up in his sparring equipment and was ready to rumble! ๐
It's moments like these that remind me why I love teaching. Every black belt once stood exactly where Jake is now... taking that very first step โญ
We're so proud of you, Jake! Here's to many more lessons, smiles and achievements ahead ๐งก๐ฅ

๐ WHAT A DAY ๐
Today marks a truly unforgettable milestone for the Rising Phoenix Martial Arts Academy.
A massive congratulations goes out to our very own Gwen Xuereb, who has become Rising Phoenix Martial Arts Academyโs first ever Gold Medalist! ๐ฅ
๐ฅ Gold Medal in her category U14 Cadet blue belts
๐ฅ Bronze Medal in the Open Category, competing against brown and black belts
To make today even more special, this is also Gwenโs very first Gold Medal!
Today wasnโt just about winning medals though. It was about believing in herself, overcoming challenges, trusting her journey and training, and stepping onto the tatami with courage, determination and resilience.
As her sensei and coach, I couldnโt be prouder. The medals are an incredible achievement, but Iโm even prouder of all of the hard work, dedication and perseverance Gwen has shown throughout her training. Watching that hard work come together today was truly special.
This is only the beginning, and I canโt wait to see where your journey takes you next.
Congratulations, Champ!

Please note that due to the Red Weather Warning issued by the Meteorological Office and the Civil Protection Departmentโs advice to avoid travel and outdoor activity, all Karate classes scheduled for today will be cancelled in the interest of everyoneโs safety.
Students who will be missing the Tuesday sessions will be welcome to attend on any of the remaining training days this week, or, where suitable, may attend a double session on a particular day, provided that weather conditions improve and no longer pose a safety risk. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.

A red weather warning, the highest level of alert, has been issued by the Meteorological Office as gale-force winds are expected to affect the Maltese Islands from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening.
The Civil Protection Department (CPD) has also urged the public to exercise extreme caution as Storm Harry approaches Malta, advising people to avoid working at heights, stay away from the shoreline and secure loose outdoor items.
According to the Meteorological Office, East-Southeasterly winds are forecast to strengthen to Force 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching Force 9 in the most exposed areas.
These conditions are expected to persist until Tuesday evening, when winds may escalate to a severe gale. The red warning for strong winds is expected to remain in force until then, with further wind warnings likely in the days that follow.
Authorities are warning the public to avoid coastal areas, particularly along the southern and eastern shores, where the strongest winds and roughest seas are expected. A red warning is also in force for mariners in the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour due to a moderate easterly to north-easterly swell.
The adverse weather is being driven by a deepening low-pressure system over Algeria that is forecast to extend into the central Mediterranean and intensify as it moves towards Tunisia, while a strong high-pressure system remains over the Balkans. This pressure gradient is generating strong and persistent winds over the Maltese Islands.

๐ฅ HAPPY NEW YEAR!! ๐ฅ
What a year 2025 was.
Packed with all kinds of incredible moments from hard training sessions, personal breakthroughs, new belts earned, confidence built, friendships forged, and students pushing past limits they once thought to be impossible ๐ฅโจ
And we didnโt just grow stronger on the mats and in the dojo, but we also grew stronger as a community.
We closed the year with an absolutely phenomenal โฌ1,540 raised for the Ursuline Sisters, who care for orphaned children โค๏ธ
This was made possible through an amazing collaboration with , and the overwhelming support from our students, families, and wider community.
๐ฅ THIS is what martial arts is about.
Discipline. Respect. Strength. Heart. Giving back.
As we step into 2026, expect:
๐ฅ Harder training
๐ฅ Higher standards
๐ฅ Bigger goals
๐ฅ More confidence, resilience, and growth
Whether youโre chasing your next belt, building strength and discipline, or stepping onto the mats for the very first time... this year is yours!! ๐คฉ
Letโs train harder.
Letโs rise higher.
Letโs make 2026 unforgettable!!

This weekend weโre proud to support a 48 HOUR CHARITY EVENT led by in aid of orphaned children who are cared for by The Ursuline Sisters of Malta๐
As martial artists, weโre taught that strength means nothing if it isnโt used to protect and uplift others. This is a reminder that discipline, resilience, and heart extend far beyond the dojo.
