Sometimes you need a rest

I've said it before on this show, but I think a lot of people have been badly affected by the whole "boys don't cry" mentality.

The reality is, sometimes you need to confide in someone and just let it out. More often than not, that person is whoever you feel safest with and most connected to.

A lot of my guys know that if they ever need someone to talk to, myself and the rest of the community are there for them.

It's always fun and games untill you act a c**t and the big boys come round to show you what's what 😈💦

One of the big changes I made when I started working on the social media marketing was the filmography.

I stopped relying on a tripod and started having someone track me by hand instead. It makes the videos feel a lot more natural and gives them more movement, but obviously having an extra person around to film isn’t always easy. Eventually I’ll invest in one of those tracking tripods, like the ones DJI make, so I can get a similar effect without needing someone behind the camera.

Apart from the visuals, I’ve also learnt how much sound plays a part in whether people actually watch a video. I used to use a set of cheap Temu s**t mics. They did the job, barely. Now I use a set of RØDE mics, which have been a massive upgrade.

I would have probably gone with DJI, but they never seemed to have anything in stock when I was looking, and their customer care wasn’t exactly convincing either.

I’m no social media influencer (new aged wankers) but I’d like to think I’ve gotten the hang of the marketing side of things by now.

Something a few eagle eyed people may have noticed lately is the removal of walk ins.

Unlike most gyms in Malta, I believe we're one of the few that doesn't allow them. Everyone is required to sign up through our members app, Glofox.

We've done this on purpose as a filter to help keep our standards high.

People pay good money to train nowadays and I want that reflected in every part of the experience. Quite often what puts someone off sticking to a sport isn't the sign up process, it's the group they end up training with.

If you're joining a gym, you obviously want to be surrounded by people with a similar mindset. Having a proper sign up process helps remove some of the wandering souls who aren't really sure what they want yet and puts you in a room with people who have made a conscious decision to be there.

That normally means people take the sessions more seriously, listen properly and actually try to learn.

It's an extra step, but it's there for a reason.

A little bit of what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to where ticket money actually goes.

Being able to fight locals is always cheaper and easier for everyone involved, but when you get to a level like Ahweafa, finding opponents starts becoming a lot harder. There isn't really anyone locally in her weight class who's close to her level, so more often than not she's got to fight foreigners.

That obviously means more costs behind the scenes, but I'm more than sure she sells seats. All of us love watching her fight.
