Thank you to todayâs trekkers that braved the four seasons in one day weather. From warm sun to icy wind to rain and rainbows - we had it all!!
Our youngest rider today was only 4 years old and she was super confident with no complaints during her 1 hour ride â¤ď¸
We are open for bookings weather permitting đ

Been a bit quieter than normal here at Ahipara Horse Treks - itâs that time of year.
However, I have had a couple of people ask me about confidence building seasons which has me thinking it could be a way of keeping the horses occupied and fed during these quieter months đ¤
So please make contact if you are interested in confidence and skill building sessions.
These sessions are not a trek, they will involve the whole experience of catching, grooming, tacking up, safely mounting, riding, untacking and releasing horse in a safe environment on one of our super safe horses - all guided and supported by one of our experienced team.
These sessions will be tailored to suit your personal needs ie
- Overcoming a previous bad experience;
- Wanting to learn basic skills;
- Thinking of buying a horse and want to learn horse ownership skills and horse health;
- Older rider wanting to return to riding
Etc
Please message if you are interested

đ´ The benefits of horse riding⌠no matter how old you are
Riding a horse is one of the most holistic forms of exercise you can do.
As Winston Churchill once said:
âThere is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.â
And itâs trueâon so many levels.
⸝
đŞ Physical benefits
Did you know horse riding works your entire body?
It improves:
⢠Core strength
⢠Balance and coordination
⢠Posture
⢠Muscle tone (especially through your legs and seat)
Youâre constantly making small adjustments to stay in sync with your horseâwhich means your body is always engaged, even when it doesnât feel like âexerciseâ in the traditional sense.
⸝
This is one of the reasons programs like Riding for the Disabled Association exist.
Years ago, when I was volunteering, there was a teenage boy who rode every week. He had once been wheelchair-bound.
By the time I knew him, he was mobile with the help of a walking frame.
His caregivers credited his weekly riding sessions as a huge part of that progressâ
the gentle, repetitive movement of the horse helping his muscles, combined with the warmth of the horseâs body supporting circulation.
Over time, he grew strongerâŚ
until he could stand⌠and eventually begin to walk.
⸝
đ§ Mental and emotional benefits
Riding isnât just physicalâitâs mental too.
When youâre with a horse, you have to be present.
Focused.
Calm.
Horses respond to your energy and emotions, so if youâre tense or distractedâtheyâll often reflect that back to you.
This is why equine-assisted therapy is becoming more common in mental health support.
Working with horses can help people:
⢠Regulate emotions
⢠Build confidence
⢠Develop trust and connection
⢠Reduce stress and anxiety
⸝
â¤ď¸ The connection
Horses are incredibly sensitive animals.
They pick up on subtle changes in our body language, breathing, and energy.
When youâre around a horse, you naturally begin to slow down, breathe, and become more aware of yourselfâbecause they respond best when youâre regulated and clear.
That connection is something pretty special⌠and itâs something you donât get in many other activities.
⸝
So whether youâre young, older, just starting out, or coming back after a breakâŚ
Horse riding has something to offer.
Itâs not just about learning to rideâ
itâs about improving your fitness, your mindset, and your overall wellbeing.
⸝
If youâve ever thought about starting (or starting again)âŚ
This might just be your sign đ
