Meet Dailey Christie β€” ESBA Treasurer!

Dailey has been part of the ESBA whānau for an incredible 21 years as a player and has been giving back ever since β€” coaching for the last 6 years and serving on the committee for around 5. It's safe to say basketball is in her blood!

Her love of the game is what drew her in, and that passion naturally led her into coaching.
What keeps her coming back? The tight-knit basketball community and watching the kids grow β€” not just in their game, but as people too.

Away from the court, Dailey has a brand-new title she's most proud of β€” Mum! She recently welcomed little Sydney into the world. πŸŽ‰

One of her standout basketball memories is travelling as manager with the U16 Boys to Nationals, and looking ahead, she'd love nothing more than to see the girls' game continue to grow at ESBA.

We're so grateful to have Dailey's dedication and energy on the committee! 🧑

Sorry guys, for some reason this only posted in one spot!!

πŸ€WEEK 7πŸ€

This week is a short one again. I hope people are enjoying some time with their families. No games on Monday for the Secondary B boys.

A Note About Our Referees
This is something I feel strongly about, and I'd like to address it each season because it truly matters.
Our referees β€” many of them young people β€” are out there doing a job that takes real courage. They step onto that court, make split-second decisions, and carry themselves with a confidence that honestly impresses me. I wouldn't trade places with them for anything!

Coaches, if you have concerns about a referee's decisions, please wait for a break in play and speak with them calmly and respectfully β€” or raise it with the game controller. Yelling from the sidelines doesn't help anyone, and it puts unnecessary pressure on people who are doing their very best. If you genuinely believe there is a serious issue, a formal complaint can always be lodged with ESBA.

Referees β€” I want you to know how proud we are of the work you do. You are valued, and you are supported. If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe on that court, please don't hesitate to reach out. We will always have your back.

Let's make this a season where everyone β€” players, coaches, and referees alike β€” feels respected and welcomed. Thank you!

πŸ“’πŸ€THE ESBA CREWπŸ€πŸ“’

May I present to you, our vice president, Jarrod O'Connor:

Hey everyone, my name is Jarrod O’Connor and this year I was voted in as the Vice President of ESBA for 2026.

I have been involved with ESBA since I was just a young fella, which started with playing for St Peter’s College and many rep teams across the age groups. In 2017 I left Gore to study in Dunedin for three years but always found my way back over this time to play in the Eastern men’s teams. Coming back following University, I have been playing men’s basketball and began coaching the under 16 boys age group as I am still doing today.

I have been involved with the committee for five years and enjoy being a part of ESBA as I get to see the growth of players throughout the age groups. Being able to give back to ESBA for all the support/coaching I had growing up is important to me.

My favourite memory while being a part of ESBA is coaching the Under 16 boys' team to wins over Southland and Otago in the same year, which led to earning a spot at nationals in 2024. The first Eastern boys' team to do so, which was an amazing achievement.

I am floating around Archer Stadium every Wednesday and Friday evening during the main season so don’t hesitate to come for a chat
