✨ Confidence grows every class ✨

Confidence isn’t something you have to be born with - it’s something you build.

Every class you attend, every technique you learn, every time you step outside your comfort zone, you’re becoming stronger and more capable.

Self defence isn’t just about learning how to protect yourself. It’s about developing awareness, confidence, discipline and belief in your own abilities.

You might walk into your first class feeling nervous or unsure… but with every class, you’ll learn more, improve your skills and realise just how much you’re capable of.

One class at a time.
One technique at a time.

Come along, give it a go and there is absolutely no obligation to join. 💪

It’s great to be back!

After a well deserved holiday break, it was fantastic to see everyone back on the mats! The energy, enthusiasm and commitment from our students made for an awesome return to a new term.

With training back in full swing, pre-testing has officially begun as students prepare for the second Grade Test of 2026.
📅 Grade Test: Saturday, 8 August 2026
📍 Hosted by: Self Defence Paekākāriki, Wellington

Over the next two weeks, students will be working hard to refine their techniques, build confidence and demonstrate the skills they’ve been developing. Remember, grading isn’t about earning a new belt – it’s about personal growth and perseverance.

Before you come to the school, pop into the village and pick up a coffee. Totally recommend The Perching Parrot located at 7 Beach Road.

Good luck to everyone preparing for their grading. Keep training hard, support one another and see you on the mats!

👊 School holidays

Just a heads up that Self Defence Lower Hutt will be closed for the school holidays, reopening on Tuesday 21 July.

When we return, we'll be welcoming new members into our classes:
👊 Youth: Ages 7–14
👊 Adults: Ages 14+

Over the past few months, we've worked hard to build the kind of culture we want at our school. We've got an epic crew of respectful, supportive people who genuinely want to learn, train hard and help each other improve. The atmosphere has never been better and we're excited about what's ahead.

While the doors are closed over the break, our coaching team won't be taking time off. We'll be focused on upskilling, refining our coaching and ensuring consistency across our classes so that everyone gets the best possible experience when training with us.

We're looking forward to coming back bigger, better and ready to help more people build confidence and learn practical self defence skills.

Enjoy the holidays, stay safe and we'll see everyone back on 21 July! 💪
