A few Bluff Hill bowlers have been out and about bowling. Firstly, Erika, Di D, Paddy and Els bowled in the Hastings Invitational Four last week against some stiff competition. The format was pretty tough, but still enjoyable, they report. On the first day they bowled nine games of five ends. The next day they played six more games of five ends. Altogether they won five games, drew three and had seven losses, coming in 7th out of 16.
Over the weekend the junior pairings of Pete and Paddy and Erika and Els bowled in the Raumati Bowling Club Junior 2-4-2 competition. Erika and Els qualified for the top eight, with Paddy and Pete qualifying for division 3. On Sunday, Erika and Els had a win and two losses giving them a final placing of 6th out if 32. Paddy & Pete had four wins and won division 3. Great bowling by both teams. Thanks Raumati Bowling Club for a great tournament.

We had a great view of the moon rising over the bay as play started at indoor bowls tonight. And the sparkle continued throughout the evening with some tight games and a delicious potluck dinner to follow. Sue topped the table on 23 points with Ali coming in second on 20 and Helen in third place on 19.

It was an early start for a hardy few who came along to watch the World Cup final. Congratulations to Julie King (Spain) and sorry Di J but there was too much bargy from the Argies, the best team won.
Some of the early birds stayed on after the game and were joined by fresh faces for a gardening working bee. They spent the morning and into the afternoon digging and planting, putting in a pittosporum hedge behind the shelters and weeding and planting natives on the bank behind the clubhouse. Captain Ros and the gardening team put in a winning performance and no one was ankle-tapped or sent off!

The day started early for some of our hardier members who caught the sunrise and got in a few stretches before watching England v Argentina on the big screen. They were back again this evening for another great night of indoor bowls.
While the competition was intense and passions ran high, we didn’t quite match the fervour of the Argentine fans. Rachael took top honours with 19 points, Sue came second on 16 and, after a playoff with Shann, Sandy took third place on 15.

A great bunch of hardy souls braved the wet and windy weather for another fun night of bowls. Chris squeaked in in first place with 17 points, ahead of Andrea, Diane D and Raewyn who all finished on 16 points necessitating a play off. Despite a strong start from Di, Andrea eventually took second spot and Raewyn was third.
