Roll up this afternoon has been cancelled. Although the weather appears to be clearing, there is still quite a bit of water on the green making it too soft to play on as it could be easily damaged. The bar, however, will be open from 4-6 if you want to come up for a drink. Please pass on the message that roll up is off today.

We had a small but perfectly formed turnout for the first Gintrap Twilight Bowls evening of the season. The rain held off long enough to get through eight ends with John and Erika picking up the top spot on +10 while Sue and Lyndsey were close behind on +9.
A very big thank you to Bowls Napier who have kindly let us use their green over October as we give the Bluff Hill green every chance to bed in well.

A band of Bluff Hill bowlers headed down the coast this weekend to play for the Beach vs Hill trophy at Pōrangahau. Saturday was a beautiful day for bowls and Andrea reports the locals have a fabulous site for a bowls club and they were the best hosts. The day started with a shot of rum then a lovely lunch after the third round which worked wonders for the Bluffers. After four rounds Bluff was only 0.5 behind, but five close games later and Porangahau came out winners. What a great day! Bring on the next challenge!

We had a great turnout tonight with a full house for the penultimate round of indoor for 2027. Top spot for the evening was shared by Judith and Sue on 20 points each with Sandy hot on their heels on 19.

Bluff Hill had three pairs compete in the Moira Smyth Tournament over the weekend. Els and Di Matthews (Bowls Napier) won their section. The other teams put down some good bowls but didn’t manage a win. Thanks Havelock North Bowling Club for an excellent tournament and yummy morning and afternoon tea. We don’t have photos as the teams were too busy bowling!

We had a full house for indoor bowls tonight and competition was hot, although there was only one high scoring game. Three of that team of four took out the top placings for the night: John on 17, Sue on 16 and Majorie in third spot on 15.

With some of our regulars away, we had a smaller than usual crowd … but that means more bowls to play! Bradley took out the top spot tonight with 17 points while Rachael and Sue both finished on 16 points.

Last weekend, Bluff Hill entered a men’s team in the Havelock North Men’s Classic. It’s been a long time since Bluff has been able to enter a men’s team in any competition. Our team of Peter Hug, Peter Hill, Ray Coley and Alan Schofield did us proud. The Classic consists of 4’s, Singles, and Doubles over two days of bowling so lots of experience was gained and we hope it encourages others to give it a go.
