What an amazing week it has been for our Senior Gold Basketball Team, competing at the qualifiers tournament in Rotorua. Our boys placed 6th overall, which means they qualified to play at Nationals in Palmerston North during the first week of the Holidays! Congratulations Team, Coaches and Management for this outstanding achievement.

National qualifier tournament 2026

A huge congratulations to all of the players, coaches, managers, referees, supporters, whānau, and everyone who played a part in helping this team reach this tournament.

The boys showed incredible resilience, heart, and determination throughout the week, and they should be proud of what they have accomplished.

A final placing of 6th out of 24 competing teams was enough to advance to the nationals being held September 28 to October 1st in Palmerston North.

The boys dug deep to secure a hard-fought 79–73 victory and advance to the 5th/6th placing match.

More importantly, this win punches their ticket to Nationals! 🏀

After battling through a tough tournament, showing incredible resilience and determination, the boys have earned their place on the national stage. One more game to go as they look to finish the week strongly.

Halftime: 40-40

A tightly contested battle heading into the break. Hayden Hemi has been outstanding, dominating the first half and leading from the front. The boys have fought hard, but have found it challenging to maintain the same momentum when Hayden has been off the floor.

All square at 40-40 with everything to play for in the second half.

End of the 1st Quarter

Locked up at 18-18 after an evenly contested opening period.

Hayden Hemi continues to lead from the front and is doing everything he can to lift the group after a slow start. The boys will be looking to build momentum and find another gear as the game progresses.

CHB College will go head-to-head with Hato Pāora College today at 11:30am in the semi-final of the 5th–8th playoff bracket.

The boys have battled tirelessly throughout the tournament and, despite the challenges, their hopes of securing a National Qualifying spot remain alive.

Despite standout performances from Jayson Kokaua, Jhian De Leon, and Hayden Hemi, the boys have gone down in an entertaining Quarter Final clash 75-94

Showing tremendous heart and determination, the team fought their way back to within three points late in the game. However, fatigue eventually took its toll, and they were unable to hold off a powerful Te Koutu side.

The journey isn’t over yet. The boys return to the court at 11:30am tomorrow for the 5th–8th placing games and remain firmly in the hunt for a national qualifying spot.

One more day. One more opportunity. 💪🏀

The boys continue to battle hard and refuse to go away, heading into the final quarter trailing 58–71.

Hayden Hemi has been immense, leading from the front and doing everything he can to inspire his side in the hunt for a semi-final berth.
