Learn the fundamental skills of netball, including passing, catching, footwork, shooting, defending and moving into space. Players will build confidence through fun activities and small modified games while learning the basics. Whether picking up netball for the first time or looking to develop your skills, come along, expand your game, make new friends and have fun on court! Our Off-Season Netball Academy builds strength, speed and confidence through strength & conditioning, dynamic ball work and intense gameplay. Develop the skills, decision-making and court awareness to know when, where and how to make your move — in any position, against any opposition. Yesterday we celebrated the end of our U14 Player Development Programme with a final Festival Day hosted by Netball Kapiti Centre in sunny Paraparaumu. 14 teams attended – 3 from Wellington, 3 from Kapiti & 8 from Hutt Valley. Each team played four games and learned how important it is to play NetballSmart by keeping fluids up when working up a sweat on a hot day. It was a pleasure to see many let loose embedded & newly acquired skills, grow their game through close-knit team bonds and bolster learning thanks to input from coaches & umpires. Thanks to all who gave their time while contributing to this fun event - from players, coaches, managers & umpires to event organisers, volunteers & whānau in support. Special gratitude to our generous NWC contingent of coaches Bubs, Martha, Darrell, Toni, Mike, Natalie & Trish joined by umpires Te Paea, Isla & John. Your time invested into these developing players is a beautiful thing for which we are truly grateful!

This morning we had our first "Have a Go" session for ages 3 to 5. We had approximately 30 young netballers, and their whānau joined us for a taster of what futureFERNS netball is all about, the importance of whānau involvement, and how to get involved in netball once our young netties start school.
Hand-eye ball coordination is so important at this age, and to see these youngsters have a go at netball and have a whole lot of fun doing it, with their whānau, was a joy to see and be a part of. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did as coaches.
We will be looking to run more of these sessions, so please keep an eye out on our Facebook for more dates real soon.
Massive thanks to our futureFERN coaches from Wellington West Netball and Motu Kairangi Netball, and our specialist coaches Liana Leota from Netball Central Zone, Pulse Netball Khiarna Williams, and Sue Geale from Netball Wellington Centre.
