Skogen is an artist-run space and platform for performing arts in Gothenburg. Around productions, residencies and artistic processes we are interested in developing non-hierachical situations and formats for learning and sharing of knowledge. To experiment with the formats for critical reflection and learning, we organize our activities in the form of thematic ‘blocks’, some shorter and intensive, some longer or recurring over the years. During each block Skogen works together with an invited artist (or group of artists) to produce context and a public program around the artistic research being done. Besides showings of the invited artist, a block might might include additional guest performances, workshops, seminars, talks and dinners or the development of partnerships and interfaces with local communities, universities or festivals. Skogen was founded in 2012 and has its base in Gothenburg. Our studios are located on Masthuggsterrassen 3 where we also implement part of our public activities and build our public archive. Skogen is supported by the Swedish Arts Council, The Region of Västra Götaland, The Swedish Grants commitee, and the City of Gothenburg.

🪈19:00 Timoteo Carbone Hansson, Gwethilu: Songs for the Dark Lake (folk clarinets, homemade instruments, scales that don’t repeat at the octave) 🪑19:45 Klas Trollius, Andra människors rum (a man, an armchair, a lot of masks), with Timoteo as guest musician 🍝20:15 Dinner and time to talk to the artists
🛍️Samarbetet butik is open all evening. Timoteo’s record is on the shelves, and Klas’s Andra männikors rum publication too. No fees, so the money goes to the makers.

🐋The day after, 18 October Our new study group The Whale Choir invites you to The House of Onomatopoeia by Yu-Chiao Yang. A sound performance where you don’t just listen, you read the words aloud and become part of the sound. Doors 15:30, starts 16:00.

AND ALREADY UPCOMING on Wednesday 7 October we welcome Lisen Ellard with CODOMESTICATION 👶🏻🧑‍🩰

CODOMESTICATION is a project initiated by Krõõt Juurak in 2018, when they invited their then one-year-old child to join them in an artist residency. One year later together with partner Alex Bailey they developed the first version of the performance, which they performed over several years. Since 2025 CODOMESTICATION has become a travelling concept, allowing families from more than five European countries to perform the work in their own local contexts.

It is now presented at Skogen with artist Lisen Ellard and her three-year-old daughter, Rut Ellard. ✨

Have you ever seen a bottle ballet or wondered what a cord might tell you if you listened deeply?

In Don’t Take a Water Bottle for Granted, the artist Lisa Mårtensson collaborates with everyday objects as performers, aiming to shift agency from her own body to theirs and back again.

Through gestures of intimacy & failure the work unfolds as a more-than-human encounter.

Relations become fluid and animistic as plastic, wood and flesh negotiate who leads and who follows.

Tomorrow evening kl 18 performance maker, graphic designer and Skogens director Patricia Vane will share her practice.

As a performance of itself, this artist talk takes the form of a mapping: Patricia Vane traces her practice and its objects without knowing exactly what will come out on the other side. Point zero — the moment just before an action, where something new becomes perceptible — is both the subject of the talk and its method. What appears will be unique of its kind: shaped by this specific time and place, by what remains unknown until the moment itself, and by you who will come to listen and shape it with her.

Welcome to a shared performance evening with Tender Motor and Lisa Mårtensson

2 & 3 October 19:00 plus dinner 🍽️✨

👂🏻Tender Motor will perform Tender Motor. Lisa Mårtensson will perform Don’t Take A Water Bottle For Granted.

Since 2018, the performance group Tender Motor has been exploring how body and voice move and sound in an other/more-than-human landscape. In the performance Tender Motor, the voice is as much a motor for movement as the body through repetitive and mutating sequences.

In Tender Motor (durational), the group takes a playful yet deadly serious step toward the art form of ”music” to explore the thoroughly politicized, socialized, and ideologized body through the fissures of gender and the human. The group’s enduring fascination with the ambivalent yet highly potent intersection of sound-making, breathing, and movement forms the basis of a two-hour performance where the audience is welcome to come and go as they please.

🫗Lisa Mårtensson is a performance artist and leader of collaborative artistic processes (director/choreographer) based in Malmö. She has a mixed background from dance, theatre and performance art. 2019 she finished her bachelor in Conceptual Performing Arts from the Theatre Academy in Malmö. Since then she has run the performance group Absurdum Temporary Art. In June 2026 she finished her master in Contemporary Performative Arts. During her masters she has developed a solo practice inspired by the philosophic branch Object Oriented Ontology, scores from the 60s art movement Fluxus and score based choreography. It explores agency transfer between human performer and more-than-human performers such as every day objects. Lisa also runs the galleries FRANK Gallery & Studios and VAAG in Malmö.
