Michelle Duster, great-granddaughter of iconic journalist Ida B. Wells, has taken to social media to dispel viral assertions that Nolan Wells, the Black teenager found dead after a July Fourth boat trip to an island off the Mississippi coast, is a descendant of that historic figure.

"Although they might be spiritually connected, they are not biologically related. Nolan simply has the same last name as Ida's maiden name," she writes. "This has greatly impacted our family because we've been deluged with inquiries," Duster told Journal-isms. (Added July 30 to https://tinyurl.com/mv4a84vx )
