Did you see the bullet? 👀🎯
Watch closely and you’ll actually see the bullet wake as it travels 1,200 yards downrange before impacting the milk jug.
This shot was made by Matt Adamson during our May 15–16 Intro to Long Range class.
Matt is a Utah law enforcement officer and longtime friend of LRSU instructor Nick Peterson. After years of talking about taking the class, he finally made it out—and put on an impressive performance.
After completing the 1,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge on his 3rd shot, Matt stepped up to the 1,200-yard challenge.
One shot to gather a little information.
One shot to finish the job.
Pew…………………………………………DING!
Impact on Shot #2.
Outstanding shooting and a great example of what happens when solid fundamentals meet quality equipment.

Matt Adamson finally made it happen. 🎯
Matt is a Utah law enforcement officer, a longtime friend of LRSU, and a good friend of our instructor Nick Peterson.
He’d been wanting to take our Intro to Long Range class for a long time, and finally made it out to our May 15–16 class.
Safe to say… he made the most of it.
Pew…………………………………………DING!
Matt completed the 1,000-yard Milk Jug Challenge on his 3rd shot, then followed it up by completing the 1,200-yard challenge on his 3rd shot as well.
Outstanding shooting.
Congratulations, Matt. Well earned. 👊

Not Long Range but our favorite facility NORTH SPRINGS SHOOTING RANGE AND RECREATION AREA has an incredible archery range and event going on this Saturday. Check it out!
The 3D Archery Bonfest is headed to North Springs Shooting Range on June 6.
Pre-register early so Rolling Bones Outdoors - Price Adventure Hub can get a lunch count ready for all shooters joining us after the event at the Price Adventure Hub.
Good shooting. Great people. Full day outdoors.

Now THAT’S what I call rising to the occasion. 😏🎯
At the end of our May 15–16 Intro to Long Range class, we had a little downtime while a few students were finishing up their 1,000-yard Milk Jug Challenge attempts.
So I set up a Really Right Stuff TVC-22i tripod with a RYTEC Industries Tac Table and an Armageddon Gear Game Changer bag and asked if anyone wanted to try hitting the milk jug from a standing tripod position.
Jared Whiteside immediately volunteered.
The funny part?
He had never shot from a tripod before.
After a quick crash course on positional shooting fundamentals, body position, and recoil management, he settled in behind the rifle and sent his first shot.
Miss.
But it was CLOSE.
So close that I told him:
“If you hit this next shot, I’ll give you a free LRSU hoodie.”
About two seconds later…
Pew…………………………………………DING!
Challenge accepted 😂
Second shot.
1,000 yards.
Standing from a tripod.
Free hoodie earned. 👊
One of my favorite moments from the entire class.
Even better, Jared is a returning student who came back with his dad to continue refining their skills and pushing themselves further.
That’s exactly the kind of mindset that produces results.

🚨 Only one public class remains this year: November 6–7.
Some shooters just get it. 🎯
In our classes, we talk about three things required to become a great precision rifle shooter:
Mindset.
Equipment set.
Skill set.
The fundamentals and equipment are relatively easy.
The mindset is harder.
Drew Merrill came to our May 22–23 Intro to Long Range class with extensive experience as a competitive handgun shooter and instructor, but he still showed up determined to improve.
Several times throughout the weekend he’d call me over and say,
“Bryce, watch my position. Watch my trigger control. Critique me. Tell me what I’m doing wrong.”
And honestly, there wasn’t much.
His position was solid.
His natural point of aim was solid.
His rifle setup was solid.
That’s what separates great shooters from average shooters.
They’re constantly looking for ways to improve.
When it came time for the 1,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge, Drew didn’t rush.
He built his position.
Verified his natural point of aim.
Asked for a wind call.
I gave him a .5 to .6 mil hold.
One shot later…
Pew…………………………………………DING!
Cold bore.
First-round impact.
1,000 yards.
The hit wasn’t luck.
It was the result of a disciplined process executed correctly.
Not surprisingly, Drew is also running a rifle setup very similar to what several of our instructors shoot personally. Different components, same philosophy.
The results speak for themselves.
We’re excited to have Drew back as a volunteer spotter during our July classes to continue developing his wind-reading and coaching skills.
Congratulations, Drew. Well earned. 👊

10 years ago today… 🎯
One of the most legendary shots in Milk Jug Challenge history.
Before permanent target stands…
Before fancy ELR rigs…
Before everyone showed up with custom rifles and ultra-premium optics…
There was Scott Olson 😅
Scott is the longtime Range Master at North Springs Shooting Range and one of the biggest reasons Long Range Shooters of Utah has been able to grow into what it is today.
And during the VERY FIRST 1,500 Yard Milk Jug Challenge…
He showed up with what he affectionately called his “Frankenstein” .308.
Ugly Choate stock.
Factory Re*****on 700 SPS.
Cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
Freezing cold Utah weather.
No warmup.
No sighters.
No prior shots fired that day.
TRUE cold bore.
One shot.
Pew…………………………………………DING!
1,500 yards. FIRST ROUND IMPACT 😳
To this day, I believe it is still the ONLY true cold bore impact on record at 1,500 yards…
…and almost certainly the only .308 Wi******er to ever do it first shot.
Absolutely legendary.
And what makes this even crazier…
He did it with a factory .308 while many shooters that day were struggling with far more capable cartridges.
Just proof that fundamentals still matter.
We love you, Scott. Thanks for everything you’ve done for the shooting community and for Long Range Shooters of Utah over the years.

4 clips. 4 insane hits. Wait for the FINAL shot 😳🎯
The ONLY shooter in the class to complete the Milk Jug Challenge Slam 😳🎯
Brian Thomas from Eagle Mountain, Utah came out to our May 15–16 Intro to Long Range class and absolutely battled the wind all weekend long.
And when I say wind…
I mean FLAGS STRAIGHT OUT at the mile target 🌬️
12–15 mph gusts.
Shifting constantly.
Very few students were even attempting the mile because conditions were so brutal.
But Brian stayed patient and got it done.
1000 ✅ — Shot 7
1200 ✅ — Shot 3
1500 ✅ — Shot 4
1 Mile ✅ — Shot 10
Pew…………………………………………DING!
That mile hit came on the FINAL shot of his attempt.
Absolute clutch performance.
He was not only the only student in the class to complete the Milk Jug Challenge Slam…
He was also the ONLY shooter to hit the 1 Mile Milk Jug.
And the crazy part?
He did it using one of our older premium rental rifles that we had actually been considering retiring 😅
Safe to say… it earned another season.
