Lightning Protection systems in the commercial sector make safety and operations sense. In structures handling volatile and hazardous materials, the systems, as part of an aggregated approach, are critical.

They are also a c𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.

𝗡𝗙𝗣𝗔 𝟳𝟴𝟬 is the U.S. standard explicitly covering structures containing flammable vapors, gases, liquids that emit flammable vapors (Chapter 6), and structures housing explosive materials.

Beyond the already outsized risks from lightning and critical surge events, these structures reside in a special risk category.

“𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸”

In standard commercial buildings a strike damages roof and roof equipment, potentially knocking out power and ushering in a host of other negative consequences.

Strikes at facilities handling and holding hazardous and sensitive materials 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴, fractionation towers, pipe racks, and distillation columns.

The knock-on consequences from these events are catastrophic.

There is a solution.

Remodeling of any kind is one of those times.

Your Lightning Protection System must be inspected immediately following a remodeling or structure retrofit. This is the only way to ensure the system remains adequately configured to protect the structure and its electrical infrastructure.

System inspection is also necessitated by major and minor roof repairs.

Immediately after a direct strike, hurricane, or storm with high wind or hail, are other times 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦.

Properly designed, installed and maintained systems are 96% to 99% effective preventing structural damage, fires, and consequential surge events.
